On the backend I have all explicit songs named “NAMEOFSONG - (explicit).mp3” and clean songs are left only with the title name.
This feature is not implemented into plex to mark songs explicit automatically.
Anywork arounds to see which songs are explicit? Bonus question: Plex the IOS app shows lyrics to songs but the plexamp does not, is this not a feature on plex amp?
Same here. I put (ExpCon) at the end of my tracks. And it would be excellent if Plex Server could mark explicit.
I looked into this for a bit a few months back. My top level understanding is that the metadata is pulled from somewhere, if the metadata server, musicbrainz for example has a tag or flag for explicit then it is available for use. But it is up to the programmers to code in the use of the explicit tag / flag by the program. I don’t think this is happening here on the Plex Server.
If you have explicit content you have to manually label it using the label feature. I have not tinkered with it and do not have the time to label my tracks.
Yes you can do this at the album level or the track level. You would need to go to the edit menu then sharing and type in Explicit into the label field. And then you can sort, create playlists, restrict users by this label. It would be very cool if Plex Server would just scan for the word explicit or Exp or some specific word in the track file name and auto label it. or mark the track explicit in someway.
Cool. For what its worth. I figure a feature like this will take alot of time and effort for the programmers. For me, my work around is a primitive one but so far it is working ok.
What I have done is like you I have added explicit to the file name. My second step to keep the explicit material available so I can find it quick. I use musicbrainz picard to tag the music with a custom tag named Explicit. I then have musicbrainz picard filename and move the files to a sub folder in my music library you guessed it. Named Explicit.
So I can create a library that I point to the Explicit folder and vwalla I know all the songs are explicit. This also allows me the flexibility to create other libraries that I can then choose if Explicit content is in or out. For example for me. I don’t need my old school gangsta rap mixed in with my kids disney music.
Keeping explicit stuff in its own folder has been working really good for me so far and I don’t have to worry about labels or Plex not catching the tag. Anyway, just my unasked for advice.
