I have a strange issue regarding albums under “Various Artists” artist.
The folder structure is for example
Root folder - “Various Artists”
Subfolder - “Various Artists - Album - 2012 - World of Warcraft- Mists of Pandaria Soundtrack”
Plex fetches the metadata correctly for the album but buts the metadata artist name as “Mahalia Jackson” which is an artist I already have in my music library.
When I try to fix the matching I choose the correct choice as seen on added screen dump, but Plex still puts Mahalia Jackson as artist. I don’t understand what Plex fetches that artist name from.
When Plex is done matching the result is as added screen dump.
Refreshing metadata doesn’t help. The only solution I have right now is to manually change the artist name in the album metadata to Various Artists to have the album end up under the correct artist.
And this only happens and happens to all albums I have under the Various Artists root folder.
I use the “Plex Music” scanner and agent.
Do anyone have any idea what the cause of this could be?
The tags are correct. It has Various Artists as album artist. I don’t know if this has any affect but I have xml files in each album folder that has performingartist as Various Artists as well.
I’ve tried with “Prefer local metadata” ticked and unticked. It doesn’t make any difference.
I’ve done some more testing by moving the Various Artists root folder with everything inside to a different place on the server and having Plex rescan the music library. After Plex have removed all the Various Artists albums I moved the root folder back to the music folder to see if Plex would match it correctly, but still Plex sets the artist as Mahalia Jackson.
This really baffles me because I cannot understand where Plex gets Mahalia Jackson from. I cannot find that artist name anywhere inside the Various Artists folder. It’s not in any metadata, inside music files or xml files.
