plex music player

i would like a dedicated music player for plex.  becauese using pht as music player sucks.

A dedicated music player for Windows would be great. Especially if it had a mini mode that could be always on-top

the new plex music update is great, but a sperate music player will make it even better

What makes you think that a dedicated app would suck less?

would be great as a mobile app so you can quickily get to your music instead of having to flick past all the movies while walking etc

I'd love a music app for my desktop as I've totally given up on iTunes, PHT is overkill, and PlexWeb doesn't work with the Mac keyboard media controls. A small app dedicated to playing music from your library with internet radio support would be excellent.

There is a feature request with Vox developer to request adding Plex as a source; more voices may make it more likely.

Good call. I already use Vox anyway.

Vox supporting Plex would be incredible, sadly the devs don’t seem all that enthusiastic about it. Anyone know of any other apps that might consider it? I wouldn’t mind using PlexWeb if I could use the media keys on my Macbook with it.

Yeah I agree. I would love to see someone develop a desktop application that specifically interfaces with PLEX for music.

I found this interesting project: http://beardedspice.com/

The Plex Chrome app is just about as good as a native application. The media controls should work with it (on Linux, you’ll have to disable GNOME’s default behavior of intercepting media key presses; dunno bout Mac), and otherwise it’s just Plex Web.

The plex Chrome app is Plex Web. With all the limitations of a web browser.

It is, but there are a few more features available to a Chrome app that aren’t available to a normal web page. Chrome apps are allowed to use media keys, for example, which Plex takes advantage of. You can use the play/pause, next track, and previous track keys on your keyboard with the Plex Chrome app.

Didn’t know that.
But then, do the media keys still work if the player window doesn’t have focus (i.e. I work with another app in the foreground)? I’d say this is crucial for media keys to be of any use.

The Chrome app also has limited codec support. It will not play Apple lossless audio files. I know not all people can hear the difference but the transcoding to MP3 makes everything sound flat and lifeless.

I would like to see a dedicated Plex Music Player for iOS.

Plex Music Player for Mac (Winamp Style) would be great!

I love the simplicity of the Vox UI, but the sync service (LOOP) is miserable. I’d love to have a winamp-style lightweight music player for my Plex music library that let me sync files losslessly, ideally for mobile and desktop.

A plex music player for iOS would convince me to finally drop iTunes. that and videos uploaded with camera upload and I would be able to cancel all my subscriptions with apple for music/storage/etc
