PLEX Naming Albums Incorrectly - Getting Extremely Frustrated

PLEX somehow renamed a group of albums in my album library with the Big Chill, The. I store my files on a Windows 2012R2 server with ALL the files set to read only. I verified the ID tags (FLAC) and still PLEX renames them to Big Chill, The. Interestingly enough, my files are also shared to a Sonos device and ALL are displayed properly in Sonos.

I deleted the library in PLEX and re-added only to have the same results on the same albums as before. ARRRRRGGGH…

trying to upload an image of the mis-labeled albums but not sure if it worked.

I have noticed the same issue on my server… it seems randomly various artists releases are grouped under a bunch of different single artists… even if the artist they’ve been grouped under doesn’t even appear on the release! all music is tagged correctly and displays properly in every other music player.
I’m tipping this has something todo with the new Plex Music scanner that is causing a lot of issues

Edit: I’ve just been through my library and it is completely littered with occurrences of this with so many different artists with seemingly no connection to anything. I’ve had to stop using plex for my music due to numerous other issues but this is another major backward step

It’s been said and required that no matter how WE would like to catalogue our folders, they must follow the structure given accordingly. Various Artists should be used as the Album Artists tag for anything considered a compilation. So all compilations will be found under Various Artists, at the bottom of your music library. Any songs on those compilations are also NOT included in the library radio or artist radio features. Coming from a iTunes folder structure I have learned that the iTunes folder structure will no longer work correctly with the Plex Music Scanner. iTunes way of organizing is no longer valid. Everything has to follow the Picard database. Not to mention I came across the fact that if we have any folders with something like Two Lanes of Sight (2019) - EP to identify EP or - singles, the dash - that separates that identification will mess up the scanner and not match it properly, which will cause playback issues later. I’m not using Plex for music until I see improvements made. I’ve been patient but I filtered how many EP folders I have, changing the folder names is not an issue but having to actually change and make sure the metadata for over 20,000 tracks that I’ve labeled as - EP is gonna take me a while. I’m not excited atm. It’s sad the only way to play albums that are various artists is to make playlists that are genre based and then shuffle them. There is currently no way to make various artist compilations be included with the library radio feature. In addition I am seeing blank tracks in my library or ones that show up as Untitled which I know others have come across and it’s causing my apps both on iOS and android to abruptly crash regardless of me shuffling randomly or playing any playlists.

While I somewhat agree with your analysis then why (for the past year or more) were they displaying properly and now all of a sudden they are not? This all started when I added more single tracks to my PLEX singles library and they weren’t being added. So I removed the folder in PLEX, restarted the server and re-added the folder.

I have my library split into albums on one share and single tracks in another. In the single tracks library I have 1195 tracks in 933 albums. In the album library I have 25,793 tracks in 2151 albums.

But this still doesn’t explain why PLEX somehow picks Big Chill, The for album title even though the ID tags are correct? I can live with the fact they are compilation albums as long as they are displaying the artist and title listed in the ID Tag. Why is PLEX picking up what seems to be a random title?

As much as I dislike Sonos lately at least they display properly there. But I like to use the PLEX interface in Sonos as the playlist function has more power and automatically adds new tracks to the playlist when I add them to my library. I like to play tracks by year. Thanks for the replies!

If you look at the following screen print PLEX IS listing the AM Gold compilations correctly
