Plex/Nine Database

Here's a real question: Are you aiming for a unified library, or do you want separate sections on the home screen? In the video you demonstrated that you could have "mom's movies" as a section and "grown up movies" (or something similar). What I'd like more is fpr the library to work more like in Boxee. I want Headweb, Netflix and local movies to show up in the same section so it's not so fragmented. The same goes for TV Shows and music. Please tell me you'll make it happen ^_^

let me see if I understand your question: you wouldn't want different categories for different kinds of movies, but you'd want them all in one big one?
I don't know how boxee does it, but the above is possible as it is now. you don't HAVE to create different categories..
I can't help you with netflix related questions as I don't use it, but maybe someone else can..

It just generates idle chatter that no one needs and will only provoke them to rant even more and make them feel important. Just face it. These guys believe they are in the position to make demands. Everyone here knows they are not. If we don’t respond to their useless comments, they will eventually shut up (and hopefully leave to rant about boxee or whatever is their next low life target).



So can we all get back on topic please? Or at least open another thread where they can keep whining without disrupting this one.

I've made NO demands WHATSOEVER. The fact that you interpret that and refer to my comments as useless speaks volumes about your inability to understand delicate wordings in a text. Where in my posts do you find complaints and demands? NOWHERE! I've mentioned that information is lacking. Elan has acknowledged that that is problem. And so, in my previous posts, I've added that the continually growing unrest might be avoided if informative efforts are increased. What is wrong with that?

Anyway, it is because of posters like you that I look forward to leaving these forums. It has become far too undemocratic and very limited in terms of what we are "allowed" to say for my taste.

I don't feel very important, nor do I aspire to be important in this context. But I think it is important that people are allowed to say what they want, even if that means that senior members have to defend the current state of the development process when that process is clearly less than optimal (in many avid and entusiastic users' view).

BTW, it was long ago that this thread turned into many things other than being about the upcoming database per se. I think it is fair that the non-servile users are allowed to express their opinions when they do so in a civilized manner. And to ignore such post would also be uncivlized and a display of passive censorship.

I’m also, as many of you guys eagerly waiting for .9, and hope it will be released soon.



I am playing around a little with plex and my harmony one right now. But as I’m afraid of .9 changing everything I thought I’d just ask here:

So will .9 change anything how the harmony works, e.g. the harmony.xml file? Will changes made in .8.5 apply in .9 ?



Developers in this thread said Plex will automatically, at every startup tell Finder to connect to a server (in my situation afp).

So as my fileserver (running Ubuntu) is switched off when I don’t need it, everytime my Mac Mini wakes up earlier than the Ubuntu Machine it loses connections.

I’ve built an Automator-Application which does all the connecting for me, witch is a good solution but not as good as if Plex would do this automatically.

So as I hope I could get rid of this application with Plex .9, will it be able to connect to the Server after every wake up?

BOTH scenarios will eventually be supported, so far most work has been on local content, but rich integration of web plugin content with the library core is definitely something that should be coming down the road (read: not in the first release), it will take a bit for the plugin framework to catch up with the what the new library backend offers, but what you're describing is definitely planned.

I have been using a harmony with 0.8.5 and now with .9 and nothing much has changed as far as basic functionality is concerned. the standard buttons such as arrow keys, menu, exit etc. buttons still work 'out of the box'.
I did however, add some custom buttons that execute little scripts that don't work anymore like an update library button. this obviously doesn't work anymore because of the way the library is updated in the new version.
do you have a lot of custom buttons on your harmony one?
