To the devs: Can you tell us more about the Plex v0.9 database? I’m wondering if it will be possible to read info from the movie files themselves (m4v, mkv with xml tags). It would be nice if everything (subtitles, posters, tags) could be kept in 1 file.
We’ll release more details before long, we’re finalizing development and doing lots of testing at the moment. One of the goals is extreme flexibility, so scenarios such as the ones you posit may be possible, even if they’re not supported out of the box.

This would definetly help keeping the libraries of several machines syncronized, wich would be great. Today Im symlinking for this wich isnt optimal.

Yes, unless someone writes an importer/translator, which probably wouldn't be worth the trouble.
Does that mean that .nfo files and other metadata (posters tbn-files, fanart), which I suppose a lot of users have collected (I for one have), will not be picked up by the new library? That would be seriously bad news...
Thumbs and fanart will be picked up fine. The NFO files would likely be usable via another strategy, which I'll explain more later.

There's no release date, seeing as we're all working on this in our spare time and that varies from day to day :)
is there any possibility to give you a helping hand? Especially regarding the scraping of german movie infos, covers and trailers (see koredom’s and my post “ofdb scraper fix”)…
Does this mean the hours I spent replacing the covers with custom ones I downloaded will not go to waste?

Will the new library support centralized userdata? Ie : i have 3 machines, currently running xbmc, but I kinda want to get back in the plex camp. Anyways, I have one of them scrape, and the two others are symlinked to the first so that all 3 libraries are synced at any given time. Will there be native support for such a setup in the upcoming release?
