Plex No DTS/DD just PCM audio

Server Version#:4.12.3
Player Version#:

Hi All,

Looking for some assistance in the media server and streaming world.

Recently bought a Synology NAS to hold all my music and DVD/BD Audio. I have a chromecast and my tv has Plex player installed (Panasonic). The TV is connected via ARC hdmi to my Marantz AVR SR5013. Whenever I play back DVDs with DTS/DD I am only getting PCM Audio. I clearly need to narrow down where it’s going wrong.

Secondly if the audio for the disc is stereo or DTS how do I force the TV to chose DTS etc. I see on the iOS app I can select the audio but obviously the issue above still exists.

Appreciate any guidance.

Maybe to resolve some confusion…
Regular DD and DTS are compressed audio formats. So in order to play it, an app (or TV) needs to decode it. This results in an uncompressed bitstream. Some players will transfer that uncompressed bitstream through HDMI to a connected device.

That’s all your PCM is. It’s not a lower quality version of your audio streams… it is the raw decoded version of your DTS or DD audio streams.

You might run into some trouble with that when your TV wants to forward that uncompressed stream via ARC to your receiver. The ARC might not be able to handle the required bitrate (that’s why newer TVs/receivers support eARC; one of its features is the support of higher bitrate data transfer).

Thanks for a bit of an explanation.

I made a change to the TV on the audio and it did display DD after that on PCM I wasn’t get any audio on the rears.

Will have to see if the TV has ARCe, it’s a Panasonic OLED about 2 years old and the AVR is about a year old.
