My server is called Mainserver it is being run on Synology NAS. I use a desktop computer to access the NAS. My desktop name is DESKTOP-JS1T7UP. Plex stopped working when my server was off.
I started server and Plex tries to load DESKTOP-JS1T7UP as the server instead of Mainserver where all my data is located. Plex will not start from NAS. I’m able to start Plex from Launch Icon on website. I’ve tried signing out of NAS and restarting and also the same with Plex. I click on Learn More and it took me to How to Use Secure Server Connection but wasn’t able to get to the “Settings > Server > Network”, I believe since I’m not connected to the server.
I forgot to mention that I am able to view movies from remote computer connected to my network.
Your post is a little thin on specifics.
It almost sounds as if you have a 2nd Plex Media Server on your desktop… which I find a little confusing
How are you trying to access the NAS server?
Can you open it via the NAS IP address (e.g. https://[NAS IP address]:32400/web or http://[NAS IP address]:32400/web)?
I was running an older version of Plex and it was stuck on scanning for days. I stopped Plex and re-launched again. Plex wouldn’t start. So I upgraded thinking it would start but it wouldn’t start. I tried launching from the website and signing in again. Plex would start but under DESKTOP-JS1T7UP, which is the name of the computer I use to access my NAS.
That is what I don’t understand. Where did and why does Plex think that the computer I’m using to access my NAS is another server.
Normally I access my NAS through my desktop computer using a program from Synology called DSM. DSM is operated within my browser (Chrome). DSM has the Plex application, when I launch Plex a tab opens with the address [NAS IP address]: 32400/web, but Plex won’t start. I tried both options http and https and still couldn’t open Plex.
I didn’t install app on my desktop. What I do is open browser and type “find.synology.com” in
browser address bar. Web Assist page opens that has the name of my NAS “MainServer”. I then click on Connect button and enter user name and password. Afterwards DSM opens and I click on Main Menu and then click on Plex icon. Normally it opens Plex, but lately it won’t open and I then get Windows Message asking to try troubleshooter. Which I do and Windows doesn’t find solution.
Found out that the port was being used by other process. Remove process from computer and shut everything down including NAS. Rebooted and was able to install Plex from NAS and everything is working correctly.
