Plex no longer transcodes

To be clear, I wasn’t replying to your message, @FordGuy61, but to the thread.

My point was that it’s been a few releases, and while the issue has been addressed for specific environments, it hasn’t for others.

This thread is specific to Synology NAS with Gemini Lake and Apollo Lake CPUs. Due to Intel driver issues, Plex had to make transcoder modifications specifically for these CPUs in Synology NAS (which run Linux kernel 4.4 and have compatibility problems with current Intel drivers.).

While there are issues with Intel ARC GPUs and PMS on Linux, they are separate from what is discussed on this thread.

For Intel ARC GPUs on Linux systems, see Intel Arc GPU transcoding - discussion .

I’m not trying to be harsh, a jerk, etc. However, it helps to keep each thread focused on the original problem. Introducing off topic comments (which I am guilty of myself), can lead to confusion, misunderstandings, and frustration, as people may spend time on a solution that does not apply to their situation.

@klok

To be clear,

We have not spent any time attempting to support ARC GPUs.

We had a regression with ApolloLake and GeminiLake CPUs which takes higher priority because those are currently supported CPUs on Synology platforms.

Arc GPUS is considered New Development and subject for discussion in other threads at the appropriate time… ApolloLake and GeminiLake are existing support problems. This is why they take higher priority plus the usage population is much higher given the CPU’s popularity as NAS processors.

Fair point. Thanks.

Hi, could you maybe take this forward to those that work in Plex if they could add on the phone app and on the nvidia shield and apple tv app so you can see if it has Dolby Vision or HDR 10 that would be great.

I cannot believe that Plex did it again the new update you cannot transcode what is going on.

I cannot believe anyone would complain without being specific or providing logs for us to look at.

In my case, the DS918+ has stopped Hardware Transcoding again.

FOLKS …

I cannot do ANYTHING without the server DEBUG logs.

If you provide them, I’ll be able to help.
If not, then :man_shrugging:

Unfortunately not a mindreader

I don’t know if this file is right is there any instructions how I can get you those log files?

@cerim

Those are perfect. That’s what I need.
I’ll start reading / diagnosing now.

Back in a minute.

@cerim

Thank you.

:thinking: WTH? That works! I see what it’s complaining at.
(the tone mapping)

Do you have subtitles in that movie (Private Ryan) as well?

Did this all work on the Forum Preview test builds ?

I’ll give you the previous build if you need it while I work with the Engineer to figure this out. It works for us.

Yeah, I had to go back to version 1.40.4.8679-424562606-ls227.

@Corelex

Might you have logs which capture it working and not working?

This is something we need to figure out while we have data in hand.

The previous version was perfect no issues at all. And no, I don’t use subtitles.

@ChuckPa

I’m so sorry that I didn’t had any log for you at that moment. I was stressing to make it work before I went to work this morning :frowning:

How long will this take before we get the new update?

We’re trying to figure out what’s going on with GeminiLake (again)
Also, we dealing with 6.5 - 6.8 and all those kernel updates as well.

The kernel, including the intel media driver (as a result), which impacts us – we’re downstream.

I’ve checked the others and they are also impacted.

The new update works great thanks guys. I’m also thinking about making a windows PC as my Plex server wondering if Plex supports tone mapping on Windows 10 or 11.

Confirm it’s 1.40.5.8897 that’s working well for you? (HDR tone mapping, hardware transcoding)?
