Plex not allowing me to update movies via plex.tv website

Server Version#: 1.28.1.6018
Player Version#: 4.87.1

For some reason today I have lost the ability to edit movies using the plex.tv website and launching plex web that way. I can edit if I go directly to the ip address URL http://x.x.x.x:32400, using the plex.tv website stopped allowing editing movies

`

I have rebooted the machine, logged out of plex on the machine, and updated Plex to the latest server version and still cannot edit this way. Before anyone tells me, “you shouldn’t be able to edit going to that site”, this is how I have plex set to open up all the time using plex.tv and then opening Plex that way.

It seems we just got an update to the web interface to 4.87.1 . the http://x.x.x.x:32400 is still running 4.84.1. The new 4.87.1 seems to have an issue, since I have a friend seeing the same thing, launching via the plex.tv site.

Are you unable to edit any field, or just the “Edition” field? The “Edition” field is new to 4.87.1 and is not even present in 4.84.1.

I can’t click on anything in the movie edit window with the 4.87.1 version, none of the side menus work, I just took a picture of the message saying I couldn’t edit without a Plex pass. 4.84.1 works fine.

Same problem here.

I misunderstood your original post. I see similar behavior when attempting to select categories from the left-hand column. I am however able to edit everything except “Editions” under General. Very strange.

We’re investigating…

After writing this up saw on Reddit that the Plex web was updated just a few hours ago. That is when I looked at the ip address site and saw it was an older version of Plex web.

Thanks.

Something else strange is that Settings → Plex Web → Debug appears to be removed, preventing the ability to restore defaults. And the settings synchronization option appears to be missing as well, but potentially enabled as my https://app.plex.tv settings now mirror those of my embedded web client.

The issue has been identified and a fix is being worked on now, sorry about that!

No Worries. Thanks for the quick reply.

Debug is an Advanced setting. Make sure to Show Advanced.

Thanks very much, indeed that was the issue. I’m not sure how it became not shown however, without a cache clearing. And the hosted site’s settings were synced to my local web UI’s settings. But all’s well that ends well. Thanks!

Edit:
After enabling Show Advanced again, it appears that settings sync got turned on. I can assure you I did not do that.

A fix for this has just been released in hosted Plex Web App version 4.87.2 available through https://app.plex.tv/desktop

See Release Notice

Thanks for your patience and sorry about that

This is still not resolved. I am a lifetime plex pass user, and utilizing Plex Web App v. 4.87.2. I am still unable to update movie metadata.

Is that the only tag you can’t edit? Are you able to move to other tabs in the movie edit dialog?

Oh wow, you are correct @pshanew that is the only tag I cannot edit. My eyes did not venture to the other fields to register that I am able to edit all other tags. My apologies.

Yep, I am seeing the same thing.

Either perform a “forced reload” (usually CTRL+F5) of the plex web app or clear the cache of the web browser.
