Plex not crashing, but not available

I’ve had no issue for > 5 years same config, untill last week when my server started randomly becomming unavilable for anyone. Even if I browsed to the local IP it just hung. I have a backup plex server with the same config running totally fine, but my main one that I share with people keeps having these issues.

There are no obvioius errors in the logs, port forwarding is set up via Unifi and has been working fine till last week, it has 1gig fiber bell symmetical, and everything else as a service is fine on that server. I’ve tried making a new VM with the same config, and that has the same issues, I’ve tried reverting to a backup from Dec 13th and that still goes down. I’ve tied Plexpass and public versions, the backup I specifically made sure it never got updated, so it was always at 1.32.8

Any help? I’ve tried the DB repair tool and it reports my DB is fine, Im pulling my hair out!

Please confirm.

  1. New VM
  2. – which means a fresh OS installation
  3. – With a fresh test server created in that VM
  4. Same results ??

If the above is correct,

  1. Confirm DEBUG logging is enabled (but verbose is not). save if changes
  2. Restart PMS
  3. let it run 5 minutes (completely idle / best as possible)
  4. Stop Plex
  5. Get into /var/lib/plexmediaserver … drilling down to Plex Media Server
  6. Make a tar.gz or ZIP of Logs and attach it here

Sorry yeah, new VM but i restored the old VM because it didnt make a difference. I just enabled debug, Ill post the logs after it runs for a few minutes. It seems related to another thread where it will go offline, but then recover… sometimes? Like the container never crashes and other services still work, but plex just doesnt respond.

You should look at this.

Jan 07, 2024 21:32:25.802 [140458811075384] WARN - [Req#19fa6] Webhook: Error delivering payload to https://plexhook… (redacted)

If there is no difference between the original and now (as a fresh one),

  1. Host OS
  2. Host / Home network.

A fresh install of PMS misbehaving in the same exact way speaks to a host / network issue

Have you checked the host’s system logs ?

Yeah I’ve seen that, not sure why it says that as the auto scan docker I have uses that same url and works fine? But I’ve had that going for a few months now too.

I haven’t seen anything in the host logs, but I have another VM on another host with the same config that’s working fine. Other vms and even other services on the same host seem to work fine.

If I tail -f the log file I can see it still updates as someone’s watching something, even though plex says it can’t reach it on desktop or mobile

If you use tail -F 'Plex Media Server.log , it will reset to the beginning of the file as it rolls over. You’ll never lose the data. From there , you can pipe it to grep or whatever

When I try to look into any “error -“ or anything all I can see is a transcode thing about a tiznen tv, but the timestamps look like they’re recent. I’m actually looking at it on a remote vscode session, so I’m scrolling to the end of the file.

After a few reloads it’ll eventually come back up, but it kicks off anyone who’s streaming.
Or if I restart the docker it’ll come back up immediately, but it’s intermittent
