Server mac PLEX is currently unavailable

My PLEX server has been unavailable periodically (1-2 hours at a time )for the last two days. Today it went down completely. I have not made any changes at all. Been on PLEX for 4 years with no issues.
Please help.

Hey that’s good to hear you’ve been using it for so long without issues.
Let’s get some debug log files from it.

  • Open the web app https://app.plex.tv/desktop
  • Enable debug logging and save
  • Restart the Mac & log in to your desktop
  • Let PMS run for 6min so that it can initialize
  • Download the logs
  • Zip up what it gives you and attach it with your reply

Did you leave the verbose logging box checked?

You should disable IPV6, DLNA, and VERBOSE in your settings, Save, then
reboot the Mac, give PMS 6 min. to initialize, then download new logs please.

Where do I go to disable those settings? I checked every section of PLEX and can’t find those settings.
And Thanks for taking the time to assist me. It’s truly appreciated.

I may have overlooked the part where you said it went down completely.
I wanted you to make changes in Settings - Show Advanced - Network
that would be beneficial. Do you have access to that?

I do not have access to that. I see the following message under my server "The server “Brian’s MacBook Pro” is unreachable. Make sure it’s running, double check your network, and try again.”

You can shut down PMS and make the changes by hand as described here:

I thought you had access to your settings because you got some logs. My mistake.

After you make the changes, start PMS, 6min wait, and test what works.
Please describe all your LAN hardware and network layout, computers,
versions of software, VPNs, VMs, or other security software you might have running.

After you test, stop the server and get some new logs.

Thanks

Thanks. I’ll try this when I get off work this evening.

That allowed me access to the plex server plist file. I opened it with a text editor but have no clue as to what to change.
Is there a way to just move my server from my MacBook Pro to my iMac without losing my libraries?

This is very frustrating. (I included the zipped plist file)

com.plexapp.plexmediaserver.plist.zip (2.19 KB)

Your plist is the sort of thing that is best altered by the defaults command using the terminal.

Stop PMS. Run these commands in a terminal:

defaults write com.plexapp.plexmediaserver LogVerbose -boolean FALSE
defaults write com.plexapp.plexmediaserver DlnaEnabled -boolean FALSE
defaults write com.plexapp.plexmediaserver EnableIPv6 -boolean FALSE
defaults write com.plexapp.plexmediaserver logDebug -boolean TRUE

The last one may look the I missed a capital L, but that’s how it’s written.
After you run those, you can double check what’s there with

defaults read com.plexapp.plexmediaserver

Go ahead and start PMS back up and tell us how it works. Grab some logs after 6min.

Still no luck.

com.plexapp.plexmediaserver.plist.zip (1.82 KB)

You did a perfect job from the looks of the plist file.
May I ask why you say you had no luck?

I had no luck because I still can’t access my server.

Brian Wade SR.

I understand. I think we’ve made it better though. Would you gather a new set of logs now that we’ve made some adjustments please?

Will do when I get off work this evening.

Brian Wade SR.

I still don’t have access to the logs because the server is unreachable.
I was able to pull this info from Mac OS console. It shows info on the PLEX crash.

Console Plex crash.zip (296 KB)

I just got theses logs from ~/library/logs/diagnosticreports
I hope this helps.

Archive.zip (44.5 KB)

Plex stores it’s logs files in various places. The article will help you find them. Zip up the folder with all the .log files in it once you get there.

Thanks for your patience.

I downloaded the new PLEX app that was released yesterday and now it’s working again.
