Plex not deleting recorded TV shows

Server Version#: 1.40.4.8679

Recorded TV shows with DVR setting to delete episodes one day after being watched never worked. This has been an outstanding issue for as long as I can remember.
Is there a detailed guide that lists any requirements, such as folder/file permissions?
As a workaround I’m manually deleting the episodes…

Is all the watching being done by the Admin account?

My account which is an admin yes. Is this a shortcoming, do I need to use a separate account without admin rights for viewing the recorded TV shows?

If you use this server for more than LiveTV & DVR you may have disabled the Library settings for deleting media. Server > Settings > Library : What do you have for the Server Library settings? Looking for these two settings.

Then for each scheduled recording you have settings for:

Keep

Set the maximum number of unwatched episodes to keep for the show. Available options:

  • All episodes
  • 5 episodes
  • 3 episodes
  • 1 episode
  • Episodes from the past 3 days
  • Episodes from the past 7 days
  • Episodes from the past 30 days

Will remove them watched or not during scheduled tasks

Delete Episodes After Watching

Choose how quickly episodes are removed after the server admin has watched them. Available options:

  • Never
  • After a day
  • After a week

Only triggers if the admin account watches the show.

These two options are already enabled:

  • Empty trash automatically after every scan

  • Allow Media Deletion

The show library keep settings were already set to ‘latest episode’ and delete after one day. This was not working as intended.

I changed it to ‘latest three episodes’ to see if starts working…

I always watch the show with my account, which is also an admin.

Would need to see the log files from right after your scheduled task window. You could temporarily change the window to something convenient.

What do mean more convenient?
Do you really need logs, if so, which ones?

Change the scheduled task window to a time when you can download the logs when it finishes. The download makes a zip file that you drag and drop here in a reply.

It has never worked for me either. There has been several topics on it, never resolved.

I did a refresh install and now this function works as expected.

I’d want to avoid doing a Plex docker reinstall. Any other options?

Since logs were never posted the two main possibilities are file permissions or database corruption.
