DVR isn't deleting old episodes

I have Plex set to record a lot of news and daily shows. Under advanced settings for the shows I have “Keep episodes added in the past 3 days” and “Delete Episodes after playing - After a day”. The reason is that I don’t care if I miss some episodes, and if I’ve watched them I also want them gone. But they’re not all deleting and my disk keeps filling up.

I’ve confirmed that I can delete these files from within the Plex interface. I also have the “allow plex to delete files” checkbox checked in general settings. Is there something else I could be missing?

I’m having this problem as well. I have my settings for some shows.

I’ve never seen this actually work. I’m paying for Plex Pass in order to use Plex as my primary TV service in the house rather than Media Center. There are these things that just don’t work and it seems that after all of this time these pitfalls need to be dealt with. It’s close, but man it’s getting frustrating and I’m about to give up.

Works fine for me with the basketball games I record. I have set to delete after one week, or delete 3 days after I’ve watched. Perhaps its the “on next refresh” setting that’s broken?

That’s just me messing around trying to find out what the issue is.

The two different “deletes” should, at some point get them deleted. Latest Episode should cover it. But I added “after playing” as a second try and have set it to all 3 different active options:

My understanding is that these two settings only affect unplayed and played episodes, respectively. So the “Keep” setting determines how many unplayed episodes to keep around and doesn’t affect played episodes; while the “Delete Episodes After Playing” setting determines how long an episode hangs around after being watched. And I’m fairly certain that both are triggered under two conditions:

  1. When the settings are initially applied to a show, through its Advanced settings.
  2. During scheduled maintenance (by default, 2 AM to 5 AM I believe).

I only use “Delete Episodes After Playing” myself, using it to delete episodes one day after playing. However, it generally takes longer than that due to the reaping only being performed during scheduled maintenance. For example, I just had some shows in my trash can this morning which I’d watched two days ago; the first night after watching the one day time period hadn’t elapsed so it wasn’t deleted until last night.
