I’ve installed Plex Media Player for the first time on my MacBook Pro and the scan didn’t pick up my music (currently located in a Dropbox folder - so physically on the machine). The settings are very simplified and don’t seem to have any way to point Plex to this location. Conversely, I had no problem doing similar with J River’s Media Center 23. Hope you can help.
Plex Media Player doesn’t scan anything. It needs a Plex Media Server for that. Unless you install a server on your MacBook as well, you’ll be only able to listen/watch content from other machines which have the Server installed.
I did install PMS on the MBP first and it didn’t pick up the music files…I should have said that, sorry.
Edit the music library of this server instance,
go to the ‘Add Folders’ tab
and verify that it is looking in the right place for your music files
