Plex sees but won't add music to my library

Server Version#: 1.18.4.2171-ac2afe5f8
Player Version#: NA - Server question

TL;DR: I can see and add music folder to my library, but it doesn’t add any of my music and doesn’t appear to be actually scanning.

I just installed Plex on my Synology DS718+. I have media files stored on my NAS in a folder called music, directly under my DiskStation root folder. This folder is shared, and I can connect to the folder with SMB on my Mac, so the files exist on the NAS.

I open Plex Media Server, and add a new library. I can add a new library, and I can browse to find my existing music files under /volume1/music. It finds the folder and adds the folder to my library. But, it doesn’t find any of the media files in the folder. In fact, it doesn’t appear to scan (I run a manual scan and the activity icon in Plex activates for a second then closes).

I checked permissions on the music folder in Synology, and there is nothing under Advanced Permissions that would be blocking access. These are all regular mp3 and similar music files that I’ve sourced myself - no DRM.

I’m just looking to get my files added to my Plex library. Any suggestions on what I need to do?

Can you show the naming & structure used?

Plex does have a structure & naming standard.

Thanks for that pointer! Creating a new share called Media, with Plex granted access, and the Music folder under Media, did the trick. I actually had to go back and grant Plex explicit access to that folder before it would work, and that’s not in the docs. Thank you again for the help and warm welcome to the Plex community!

Hi
I had a similar issue. After adding the plex user with read access to my dir (file station) it worked.
