I had a power outage last night. Turned on my Mac today and plex was not loading. I get an error of “can not parse response”. Please help
Where do you get this error?
If the Plex Media Server won’t start and doesn’t even get to the stage where it’ll be writing to the server logs, you can attempt the following procedure to see if there’s any error messages on the OS level:
- Open Finder and navigate to
/Applications - Select
Show Contentfrom the context menu of thePlex Media Server.appitem - Navigate to
Contents/MacOS - Open the
Terminalapp - Drag the
Plex Media Serverexecutable from the Finder window (#3) into the Terminal Window and pressReturnto execute it
This is no different from running the app, so it won’t succeed – but you should get a more specific error message about what’s causing it to fail starting.
If the server had a hard crash while writing to its database, there’s a chance the database got corrupted.
Unfortunately I deleted the application to try and reinstall it. But no luck. Same error and nothing happens when I put the executable in the terminal.
Where do you get that error exactly?
Could you possibly share a screenshot?
When starting the Plex Media Server executable via Terminal…
- is there any output in the Terminal after you press
Enter? - does the Terminal return to the initial prompt (e.g.
<your Mac user id>@<your Mac's name> ~ %) or is the Terminal app just stuck on the new line after you typedEnter? - do you see the Plex icon in your menu bar after running the app?

Nothing happens. I do see a plex icon on my menu bar.
Here is a screenshot of the error.

Please share your server logs (see the highlighted link; there’s a description how to access the logs in Finder) – best create an archive of the Plex Media Server logs folder and share that zip file).
Do you get the same result if you manually open http://127.0.0.1:32400/web in your browser?
On what version of macOS are you running your server?
