Plex not playing media?

So, I have been using on Firefox from my Win 10 PC with out any issue up until about an hour ago. Now, I cannot play any media - music, movies, tv, nothing. I click the ‘play button’ but nothing happens, but only from my primary account. Strangely, when trying to log back in to that same account, it takes a ridiculous amount of time to log in, usually just spinning indefinitely. If I click on my default account a few more times, it eventually logs on. Switching to any of my other family accounts seems to work fine.

Alternatively, my account works fine from my Android phone, Chrome browser or Win 10 app (both browser and app are on the same PC as my Firefox install). If I switch to any of my other family accounts, all the aforementioned media plays fine.

I run two plex servers - One on a Mac for my music, and another for my video off my Western Digital NAS, both ver 1.14.1.5488. Neither work from my primary account and on Firefox, but both work on other browsers and/or alternate family accounts.

I’ve tried Firefox v65 (as it updated today for me) as well rolling back to v64.0.2 to the same effect. Additionally, I’ve disabled my add-ons in Firefox, and it hasn’t seemed to make any difference.

It could be my account, but why would it work on every other brower/system I’ve tried?
It could be Firefox, but why do the other family accounts play fine?

I am at a loss. Any suggestions?

So, to follow up, I now believe this to be tied to Firefox. I can stream music and movies through Chrome from work (remote) as well as home (local). However, I cannot get play to anything through Firefox at work now (ver 64.0.2, but requesting an update to ver 64 on a Windows 7 PC). From work, none of my family accounts will play any media - be it audio or video (from either of my servers). I click on play, or shuffle and nothing happens. I’ve tried from playlists, libraries or even recently added to no success. I am certain that Plex had been working fine on Firefox before yesterday evening, for it is my primary browser at home.

All relevant hardware has been rebooted and it seems to be working as expected, outside of Firefox, that is.

See here, I think this is your issue. I have the same problem with FF 65 with my own (plexpass) account if I use plex.tv and not the local webapp. But my home users work… Weird.

So, I took your suggestion and connected through my local IP instead of app.plex.tv and it plays just fine now. So, while Firefox may have a hand in this, it seems to be something related to the Plex servers instead?

Yes it seems that way, plex.tv website was showing timeouts and slow responses. Local servers need to connect and authenticate with the Plex remote servers before you can watch anything, and because they were down none of us could watch anything! My solution was to unplug the internet from my network, then I could watch local things again :slight_smile:
