Plex not pulling id3 information

Server Version#: 1.32.4.7195.7000
Player Version#: 4.108.0

I recently started tagging some compilations with various artist. No matter if I set the agent to Personal Media or Plex Media it just doesnt read the local metadata and only displays the titel and no artis name. All files have id3v1 and id3v2 tags.

Anyone know why this is?

With the ‘Plex Music’ agent, do you have Manage Library > Edit > Advanced > Prefer local metadata checked?

If so, and refreshing metadata doesn’t help, can you show the specific tags that you have set on the tracks?

Yes, perfer local metadata is checked.
Heres screenshots from dbpoweramp and Winamp (whatever suites).

What happens if you change the album artist to ‘Various Artists’ or similar? Plex won’t show the artist inline if it’s the same as the album artist, and since it looks like they’re both set to (Wallace), Plex is hiding it.

Tried changing to Various Artists already. I also did unchecked the “local metadata” and checked it again. Now I the refresh metadata is greyed out on this particular album.
I am surprised that the ID3 has set the album to the same name as the Album artist. No idea why this was tagged that way… Yet, all other tracks are from different artists.

First issue is your folder organization.
You are missing a superfolder for the AlbumArtist. (which in the case of a sampler is Various Artists)

/Music
   /Various Artists <-- "AlbumArtist" superfolder
      /Permanent Vacation 8 (2023)
         01 - Wallace - Largo.mp3
         02 - Artist 2 - track 2.mp3
         ...

Inside of an AlbumArtist superfolder, there must be not a single track which has a different AlbumArtist tagged.
Otherwise all hell is breaking loose – particularly if you enable “prefer local metadata”.

An example of a whole album:
Notice the folder structure and the embedded metadata, the AlbumArtist in particular.
Don’t forget to tag the track numbers as well!

Thats it. Aparantly not really a great setup but I might need to adapt to this to have all data visible.
