I’m using the Hauppauge WinTV-quadHD for Plex DVR and are facing the issue that Plex is not releasing the tuners correctly. This make DVR mostly unusable as I cannot tune to another channel. Even DVR Recordings cannot be programmed as Plex cannot tune to the programmed channel because it occupies all of the tuners.
Any ideas / solutions?

Can you provide some more detail, please? Some information about what exactly is happening, and some logs from when this occurs would be really helpful

I deleted the DVR and tried to setup it again. Even with a deleted DVR the tuners are occupied:

I’m not sure if my situation is related or not (I’ll make another post as well.) but if I have two recordings going, I can not tune anything else, despite me having a quad tuner. For what it’s worth, yes, I’ve tried both “guides” (since Plex handles the quad tuner as 2x2 tuners).

Plex 1.13.1.5063 is the only TV related software on the system (Win 10 Pro).
The Plex instance was running around the last 24 hours with deleted DVR settings. Right now I tried again to scan the channels and the tuner was still occupied. However, after closing Plex and restarting it again, the tuner was available. So it seems for me that Plex is blocking its own tuners, even after removing the DVR.
This problem has existed for 5 or 6 months, its been mentioned on multiple threads. When it is happening if you look at your two tuners in plex settings you’ll see that several of them say “1 recording now” or “2 recording now” even though they aren’t even tuned to a channel physically and not in use. I know they aren’t actually in use because my 4 signal monitors one for each tuner each show inactive. Only restarting plex (not windows) releases them. With 4 tuners I only have to restart plex about once a week to get around it so I’ve dealt with it.

I have a similar issue (tried Ubuntu then Windows 10 for the Plex Server role) – I have the WInTV Quad card, and it sees the device as 2 dual tuner devices. However when channel scanning the second one in the device setup screen, it seems to not find any channels, and so the 2nd tuner is not usable. The card has an internal antenna splitter so there’s no reason the other tuners shouldn’t see the signal. Was curious if that’s what others see when setting up this card, and if there’s something I’m missing to get both in use. I’ll try restarting plex a few times as per jmfolcik’s post, but sounds like if Plex is going to list this as compatible (the reason I bought it) on their site, they need to work on how the server is addressing it.

How is this related to the issue that all tuners are occupied and Plex is not releasing the tuners?
Do you have duplicate channel identifiers between your tuners?
