I am having a problem again with Plex accessing ,my HDHomeruns but I believe this is a different issue then before.
I have 2 HDHomerun Primes
Plex is using the first two tuners and a Windows Media Center using the third tuner on my first HDHomerun Prime device. Plex appears to not be recognizing that the third tuner is busy used by another device and/or Plex isn’t falling back to the next available tuner on the second HDHomerun device.
Help please!
Plex will not fall back to another tuner device. If you are using a tuner device for another app and Plex issues a request to a tuner to stream a channel and the tuner device rejects the request your recording will fail as you have discovered. Plex assumes it has exclusive control of all tuners configured in Plex. If you are going to use a tuner device with WMC then I would suggest only configuring one off the HDHR Pimes in Plex and the other in WMC.
Don’t you think Plex should consider that other devices might be using tuners and attempt to issue a request to a different tuner should the first requested tuner not be available? What is the point of have several network tuners if they must be dedicated to a single piece of software on the network. This code workflow seems sloppy. If I could contribute to this code I would be happy to fix this.

Supported DVR tuners can vary by region and operating system or device. Please refer to the following charts for tuner and operating system/device compatibility for Plex Media Server in different regions. The tuner names in the tables will link to the manufacturer’s website for each device. Some tuners below may require the most recent beta release of Plex Media Server.
Note : When connecting a tuner device to your Plex Media Server, the server expects that it will have exclusive access to the tuner. That means that if you use other programs or devices to access the tuner, you may experience unexpected behavior such as tuning problems or failed recordings.
Thank you for this reference. I was unaware that this was stated in a support article. If Plex Live TV worked reliably with the tuners I would definitely have no reason to use other software. Unfortunately, sometimes Plex Live TV works and sometimes it doesn’t. Even the same channel works sometimes and other times doesn’t work.

Live TV worked great today until 2 pm. Plex can see my tuner (HD Homerun) , but can’t communicate with it. The tuner works fine through the HD Homerun app, just not through Plex any longer??? I removed the HD homerun app and removed and reinstalled the tuner on plex to no avail.
That is hilariously ironic. My wife left Plex Live TV on a channel overnight and when she turned on the TV today at 12:30 pm the Live TV was still running! I was ecstatic! As soon as she changed to a different channel she started having problems with keeping that channel running. Other channels failed, even the channel that was left on overnight. We had to use WMC to watch what we wanted to watch.
I’ve marked this one solved. I don’t like the lack of fallback but if it’s by design maybe this feature could become part of a future release.
