Server Version#: 4.58.1
Player Version#: Unsure - Plex on Roku TV
This has been an issue for a long time. I have my server setup to default to english audio, but when we play movies and TV shows from any of our Roku devices it plays whatever audio stream is first in the file. So if the file has two audio streams and French is stream 0 and English is stream 1 it will play in French until we manually select the other stream. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Your audio tracks must be identified with language tags. Otherwise Plex can’t find a suitable track to select.
All my tracks are identified - and Plex makes the right choice every time.
Augmenting the above:
The language preferences in the server settings are only used, when the server is not signed into a plex.tv account.
In regular use, the Audio & Subtitle preferences of each plex user account take precedence: https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/account
Precisely… and it happens right here:
Shown with Foreign Audio may mean something different to many, but it really means if I play an item with a Russian Audio Track, Plex picks the English Subs automatically.
That’s good. I don’t speak Russian. Plex deduced that from my settings and reacts accordingly… as long as the tracks are identified.
The tracks are labeled properly. The first one says Language Francais and the second says Language English.
My account is also setup to default to English.
This is exactly what my account settings look like yet it does not select the right track, it selects the first track in the file.
A ‘Name’ and a ‘Tag’ are two different things.
Otto is going to explain that…
Is the checkbox at the top activated?
Careful: the language must be set in the appropriate language meta tag.
It doesn’t work if the language is only mentioned in the track “title” meta tag.
The tagging looks OK.
Keep in mind that if you ever touched the language selection on these videos manuall in Plex, the last selection is being stored for ever.
Which practically means that automatic selection only works on new items.
Also keep in mind that these language preferences are separate for every user. If you set them in your own account, they don’t work on your shared and managed users.
Does that rule apply to home users as well? This seems to happen with my kids account a lot.
Every user.
You can fix this yourself for your kids.
Just use the “Switch User” command in the web app, do the changes, then switch back.
Repeat for every family member.
Got it. Yeah it looks like their account wasn’t setup to auto select the audio. Hopefully that fixes this issue. Thank you!
