This is followup to post from Sep 2017. I’d had similar symptoms but prescription from that post didn’t bring the cure. Situation is using PlexPass and LiveTV+DVR, the DVR is working almost perfectly, but the TV library created doesn’t organize shows by seasons. I was baffled since all the shows I’d done 5 years ago worked without any issue.
Turns out here’s the problem. TV shows created by Plex recordings from DVR have the “Seasons” option defaulted to “Hide”. I never even knew this setting existed. It is from the “pencil” icon, under the advanced settings option. Hey Plex Dev Team - stupid default here, perhaps you should change it!
The default value for Advanced > Seasons of a specific show is Library default.
The default value for Advanced > Seasons on a tv-show library is Show. Are you sure you haven’t changed it at some point?
I’m quite certain I’ve never changed that deliberately, I never knew it existed. I’ve not recorded new TV shows in several years. Additionally, I just poked around and found the setting for the overall library, and it says “show” seasons by default. So, do what you have to do, but for me and my little world, no, I’ve never touched it. And, I’ll be sure to try and record a new season of something I don’t care about in the coming weeks, and I’m pretty sure it is going to setup as Hide by default. If not, I’ll gladly let you know
btw, love the DVR. I had bought HDHomeRun basic overtheair device, but an underpowered NAS didn’t do it any justice. I just upgraded to synology ds1621xs+ and wow, all things are new. Plex is much matured since 2012. I remember trying to strip commercials with NextPVR. It was never as seamless as Plex!
