Plex not transcoding DTS audio for Apple TV 4K

Any idea why, or is this working as intended?

Since Apple TV doesn’t support HD audio, some files with DTS audio will create an unwatchable stutter, frame drops and desync.

I’m using the new player, as soon as I switch to the old player it will successfully transcode audio, and Direct Stream video - however I’d prefer to use the new player, if possible, for other reasons.

Here is the video playing on the New Player. Direct Playing video yet refusing to transcode audio. Notice how this causes massive frame drops. This happens on many other DTS titles (although weirdly I have 1 DTS-HD MA 5.1 file that Plex doesn’t transcode, yet it weirdly plays fine?)

Here is the same video playing on the Old Player. It now Direct Streams video, but note how it now transcodes audio to a format ATV4K supports. No more dropped frames.

I just want my Plex server to transcode DTS audio before it sends it to my ATV 4k in the new player.
Is this achievable with any tweaks on my end?

The enhanced (new) player can decode DTS, so it shouldn’t require audio transcoding. It sounds like perhaps there’s something peculiar about the particular files here that you’re seeing issues with. Please help us investigate more:

  1. Create a small sample file (https://support.plex.tv/articles/201035968-generating-sample-files-from-media/) that reproduces the issue when you play it
  2. Grab the logs from your Apple TV app (https://support.plex.tv/articles/212639598-apple-tv-logs/) after reproducing the issue
  3. Attach the logs to a reply here and provide a link to the small sample file (so it can be used to help test/investigate)
