UPDATE: This is the only thing I see, in the web application - “Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error.” when trying to play a movie.
I have rebuilt my Linux server (Debian/OMV), and had my services (such as Plex) running as containers with Docker. I have fixed all permissions on my media and application files. I have tried restarting and recreating the container. I have tried changing transcoding folder from default to /tmp, and back again. But video files will not play in the web application, and for some reason, my movies will not play in the mobile app but other shows will.
I’ve had similar issues before, and from memory it was due to permissions; but I cannot see any errors in the logs at all. Nor can I see any Sessions being created in the Transcode cache?
It’s really frustrating, as I just want it up and running and after lots of googling and mucking around, I still have no idea why it’s not working
Can anyone provide me some help, I don’t know where to go from here?
Ok, just an update. I found some movie files that play. I cannot figure out what the difference is between them, because when I look at other 720p files or other mkv files that seem to be the same, they won’t play either. I looked at permissions, and they are the same as well.
I think it has to do with the file types, which is very odd as I never had a problem with playing large files out of the box before?
Movies now work fine from my Android Plex app, but still not on the browser, nor the Windows app on laptop nor Xbox.
Using an alternative Docker image returned the same results, “Conversion failed” error.
I tried Emby as an alternative, and it’s playing movies from both the browser and the Android app fine
I’m not sure what the exact issue I’m having with my setup and Plex not being able to transcode, but at this stage, I’m probably leaning towards just switching to Emby. I’m really stuck with ideas and have tried lots of things with absolutely no progress on this issue. Unless someone one day has a suggestion, I’ll probably have to forget about using Plex for my personal media
I’m sure it’s something stupid that I’ve done, but I have no idea what that is; I really hate leaving things unresolved.
