Plex not using surround on H9G Android TV

Server Version#: 1.19.5.3112
Player Version#: 8.5.1.19778

Speakers : logitech z906 connected via optical cable
(TV has different audio modes, auto, passthrough, pcm, DD, DD+ I tried them all none work, while selecting DD makes my decode light show on my console, it doesn’t actually output to rear speakers.)

TV: h9g

Hello, I’m having a strange issue with plex not using surround speakers I just bought for my TV.

They work just fine in Netflix, ect.

For context my speakers have a decode light and stereo light so I can tell if surround or stereo is on, although I can just tell by listening as well. I’ve tried all types of content in plex, dts, dd, ac3 5.1, nothing works, it all goes to stereo. On server side it shows direct play 5.1 when using the tv, but no surround.

Speakers are also hooked to PC, plex player on windows works just fine with it.

I was able to get surround to work on TV by enabling passthrough in plex player on tv app, but this caused a slight audio delay that kinda drove me nuts, like 100-200 ms, trying to see if there’s another option

Anyone know what’s going on here and how to fix, It’s pretty bizarre…

So, I was running into similar problems over ARC, and I found a solution by selecting Dolby Digital Plus as the TV’s passthrough, and then selecting “Opitcal” in the Plex App’s passthrough. For some reason, even though I’m doing ARC passthrough, selecting “optical” is what triggered the TV to passthrough the 5.1 audio via ARC. Maybe it will do the same thing on your end.
