Surround sound - 5.1 - not working

Am I missing something that surround sound is not working over PlexConnect even on files that list 5.1?

I guess you miss the latest PMS version - currently PlexPass only.

This is what I think to remember, haven't delat with all of this myself.

Baa, I just noticed you didn't have a PlexPass and fixed that :)

Yep as stated you need a plexpass account and the .27 PMS, once you have that you go into settings on the pms server and then go to transcoding and enable 5.1 for ios airplay (although you are not truly airplaying it)

No, I didn't...

Doing mostly the low level programming I wasn't in need for always the latest PMS so far :-D

But - hey - thanks!

Well, that's enough reason for PlexPass. Thanks guys.

I did upgrade to PlexPass and installed the latest available version of PMS (0.9.8.0.36) and enabled the 5.1 over airplay. Yet any of my movie sounds with 5.1, even AC3 one. All of them is an .mkv format. Any solution?

F

Do you have audio boost or down mix DTS on?

I am also not seeing 5.1 over PlexConnect after getting PlexPass. What am I missing?

Just to make sure you do have server .27 or 9.8 installed (both plexpass only) and then in the web gui under settings for plex media server click on transcoder and then hit show advanced settings and enabled 5.1 over airplay.  And finally you have Dolby Digital enabled on your atv under the atv settings and then under plex you have DD set to yes right?

That did it, thanks. I didn't realize 9.8 wasn't the one I downloaded from the website. I got it now.

So with the current 0.9.7.28 (no plexpass), it's not possible to have 5.1 with ATV, right ?

We need the plexpass version ?

Correct.
FWIW we are not on commission for Élan, it is just that it required a change on the server end for the new transcodes :)

thanks. Not a problem for me

I'm using XBMC on two ATV2 right now. I'll install my plex setup and if I like it, I'll buy the lifetime license.

Is it still PLexPass only? I thought the latest push a couple of days ago "freed" the new feature for std. users as well?

Offered at plexapp.com currently: PMS 0.9.7.28.33 (I never understand, why they need so many numbers...)

Yeah 0.9.7.27 is where they added the fix so it looks as if it is now general release.

I missed it because there was no blog post (probably because Elan’s on his holidays).

I better update the wiki as well.

Hi,

I've updated to Plexpass, am running 0.9.8.3, and enabled Digital Dolby on ATV in the Plex server as instructed.   Additionally, I am running an optical cable from my ATV to my surround sound system.  I also went into the movie settings and changed the audio to ac3 5.1.

However, I have no audio when setting Dolby Digital to "on" my ATV...but get standard audio when setting this to "auto".

Can you please advise as to what I may be missing?  Thank you in advance.

You do not need PMS 9.8 or PlexPass to have 5.1 sound through ATV3.  I have it working on 9.7.  There was a recent mistaken code change in PlexConnect which has today been corrected which will re allow 5.1 dolby through an ATV3.  Download the latest plexConnect.

Just downloaded PMS 9.8 and the latest Plex player, configured everything to get Dolby sound and now audio is just producing a lot of noise. Can anybody tell me what the audio settings should be ?

I have the following settings:

Audio Output: HDMI

Speaker config: 5.1

Audio offset: 0

DD capable receiver: checked

DTS Capable receiver: checked

Audio output Device: Airplay

Using airplay or not does not make a difference. The loud noise is played over the iMac's speakers as well. Audio Output set to Digital does not make a difference either.
