I’m watching particular episode of a show in Plex on my xbox one, but it is only coming out of my front speaker. if i watch this through kodi on my media centre it comes through all my speakers. i thought surround sound was working in plex now?
Surround sound has always worked on the Plex for Xbox app provided you have the Xbox One itself set to output a surround sound signal to your receiver.
The only issue is that the app cannot switch sound modes, so if you have the Xbox set to output 5.1 it will always output 5.1 no matter what the server is sending to the app.
The file in question has been encoded with ac3 5.1, if that helps. At least that is how Plex identifies it. If I play another file through Plex, say a movie whic Plex says is DTS 5.1, then the audio plays through all my speakers fine. And this is still through Plex on Xbox One. Any ideas?
DTS itself is transcoded to AC3 as a DTS decoder is not exposed to 3rd party apps, so if you’re getting sound from that DTS file you should definitely be getting sound from the AC3 encoded file.
A Plex Media Server.log file from attempting to play the AC3 encoded file might help shed some light on what is happening, but the developers might need a sample of the file to try and reproduce this on the developer kit.
hmm, strangely, im playing the same problem video again and its fine. not sure what happened there, but thank you for the rips, i will use them if it happens again
