Plex not working on PS4

Hi,

I can not get the Plex app working on the PS4.

Whenever I open the app on the PS4 it takes a long time and then gives a message saying “Plex is unable to start due to an error.”, it gives me an option to reset plex but this does nothing.

I have tried closing and opening the app, checking for updates, turning the console off and on & deleting then reinstalling the app all with no success.

The Plex app is currently working on my laptop, Xbox 360, Roku and iPhone.

I have recently upgraded my modem to a FRITZ!Box 7490.I am not sure if this would cause a problem?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

How is your ps4 connected to your network / plex server? If you run the network test on the ps4, does it complete everything successfully?
If you’re running wireless, perhaps the signal is not strong enough? Try with a Ethernet lead and see if it succeeds. If this works and you can’t get a good enough connection wirelessly you might consider other methods like Ethernet or power line kits etc.

Thanks for your help, it looks like it was a temporary issues with the wireless network speed, I will look at connecting it via ethernet.

Hi,

I’m getting the same error on my ps4: “Plex is unable to start due to an error”.

If I start the app it presents a sign in button, if I activate it i’m told to go to the webpage plex.tv/link and enter the 4 digit code.
After doing this the app tells me “You’re all set.” and freezes for a couple of minutes before switching to a blackscreen with the Plexlogo and also freezes for minutes, then the error comes.

“Plex is unable to start due to an error.
You can press ‘Reset Plex’ to restore default settings and restart Plex. You can drop by our community forums at ‘https://forums.plex.tv/’ and tell us about it in person”.

Only thing I can do now is pushing the Reset Plex button or shutdown the app. Using the Reset button brings me back to the beginning of this story, shuttingdown the app (ps4 start button > options button > close app) and starting it again brings me back (after minutes) to the error with the reset button.

In my Plex server settings tough, I see the ps4 being added to the list of devices.

Cabled or wifi I can’t get Plex to work on my ps4.
Any ideas?

I’m having the exact same problem as r plex.
However, sometimes it does work for me but I have not yet found a relation with something.
Also, resets (both soft and hard) don’t work at all.

I’m having the exact same issue just refusing to log in at all. working fine on other devices.

Thanks!.. fixed it by changing connection setting on the media server. Settings > Server > Network > Secure connections: Disabled.

For the time being, the Plex App on PS4 is only available for Plex members with paid accounts. Eventually, you’ll be able to separately buy access to the PS4 app without the Plex Pass, but the subscription is mandatory for now. So if you want the streamlined experience, head on over to the Plex website, and buy a Plex Pass.

If even the most basic setup doesnt work and you guys made an app for the ps4 that does basically nothing (not even respond to the controller) why should i give you my money?
