I notice that plexnotify.com, plexnotify.codeplex.com, The Plex Notify Twitter page and Facebook page are all gone. And I just sent a donation a couple days ago.
Such is life...
I also noted that www.plexnotify.com is inaccessible at present, not only due to server not replying, but due to DNS lookup failure, meaning that the site is not considered as existing at all, from the point of view of the DNS servers.
I'd appreciate it if someone with more detailed knowledge of what has happened can clarify the situation.

Hey guys it has been a while so I figured I would fill everyone in on what's the status is on Plex Notify. So I had gotten a proposal to make Plex notify a website. There will me more than just me working on it. This site would keep your server stats for you without any installation to your server. This will make Plex Notify more universal.
There will be an optional windows service that you can install to get additional information gathered from the server.
The desktop app is scrapped. A lot of the code in the service is being put server side. We will use your existing Plex TV logins to login to the website.
I believe this is the best direction for Plex Notify. There might also be a name change to the product.
There will be some subscription based features. For those who have already donated to the project I will ask you at some point in the future for your Plex TV name to get free premium service for a year as a way to say thank you for supporting the project. The price for the premium service has not been established but it will be in the $3-$6/month range. I have to see what the servers will cost.
I will have more information as it develops.
Personally i'm a little upset about the scrapping of the desktop app, after a few teases and the December 25th release date.
ill probably just keep the Alpha to be honest , does what i want it to do and haven't had any issues. not overly interested on signing in on someones server.
I have to say I agree with some of the concerns here about privacy. Many of us access our own home media using Plex which we would not want to be at risk, if even just the titles, in any way to those we we would prefer not to. Similarly as PN reports on local stuff which we may not be sharing with our friends PN breaches the local barrier so to speak.
The idea of making this web based is fine as long as WE control what information leaves the local network to go to the WWW.
Personally all I used PN for is to send a message to pushbullet which in turn keeps me up to date with how many users are stressing out my media server. So harping on about Privacy is a little silly given the privacy concerns over Pushbullet but, most importantly, I have control over the information.
Have to say, along with people concerns over privacy, that this leaves a extremely bad taste in my mouth with this. Ok, they want to take another direction... but to just delete/remove/take down the site, twitter, facebook, code bases with no word via any of them as to whats going on or why... bad form. What was wrong with leaving the existing website up and running with a news posting saying what was going on, also allowing for future updates and redirects to any new sites that they might move to.
Chances i would have paid for such services were slim to begin with, now though those chances are absolute zero.
Perhaps i will just pick and choose the features and abilities i wanted most and code something up myself.
On my Windows 8.1 system, I cannot seem to run the program from the start menu or after a reboot. The program is in the taskbar, but if I right mouse click and select items, I receive a PlexNotify has stopped working error message.
I am only able to get it to work if I go into the directory like "C:\users\username\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0\XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\plex...tion_XXXXXXXXX" and select the program to run as administrator from that location (doing from the start menu or selecting it to always run as admin in the properties does not work
Is anyone else encountering this issue?
I had that exact problem on Windows 7. I reinstalled and wiped all plex notify data once and that worked. It happened again after another month. This time I found your solution, which - although not perfect - is far superior to having to reinstall and lose my data every month or so. Thanks for the help!
1) Notify has not worked reliably in months (and I was a supported who has donated).
2) I will not give my PleX login details to a third party website.
3) Subscription for stats? Give me a break.

The original .NET version of Plex Notify is still working great for me. I personally think this is the right way to go. As Plex becomes more and more mainstream, users are going to want a stat feature without the need to install yet another server. This is just something we're all going to have to accept.
I'm interested to know if the Plex team offered anything to the developer of Plex Notify. If I were them, I'd be building my own stat engine. It would make Plex infinitely more valuable and give it a huge edge over services like Netflix.
I am in agreement with most of the comments, I'm sure it's not what JBurlison is wanting to hear as he has invested a lot of personal time, energy and passion into this project. Maybe it's worth putting together some kind of user poll with various options to get a feel for the wider community appetite on features/payment options/install options etc etc..
Seems such a waste for all involved who have followed the thread and development with such enthusiasm to be so disheartened with the recent news about a move away from the local install. I'm sure there's more news to follow which will interest a % of members, let's face it PlexNotify was developed as it absolutely fills a gap in the user experience category that the Plex team have not yet fulfilled.
I think the main concern here is the loss of control around the distribution of personal data/viewing habits/Plex login data to the wider internet - this is a big deal for a lot of people.
To to finish on a more positive note, I have every intention of donating (I was just waiting for the new Windows service build) but want to send massive thanks to JBurlison for all of the outstanding work already completed in the beta build. I have been using this since the very first incarnation and it's been a great addition to my Plex & home media automation solution.
I'm very disappointed in this development. If a program is worth it, I don't mind paying for it. Though I would prefer a one time fee.
But as much as I like this app. I'm going to have to say no and pass on a web site model. As others have mentioned, I do not like my info floating out there and I doubt my user base would either.
Can we hear from the Dev! Could you clarify who has proposed the website and who else will be working on it? Is it the guys at Plex or someone else. We are all assuming it’s outside Plex is that right?
It still fascinates me that people comment about privacy of their personal info and then comment that PlexNotify no longer appears on FaceBook.
Either way James is never going to be able to please everyone. I will say though that he has been very active throughout with developments and then suddenly silence... Until he returns with "monthly subscription" and "hosted on the web."
I'm not saying "no".. I am saying "perhaps not"
Anyone have a link I can download the original version?
I don't think the original version works anymore unfortunately. I get this error message now when I try to load Plex Notify:
If anyone knows how to override the call home the application trys to make to the update server (which I assume is going on here?) so that we can continue to use the latest version of the desktop app, that would be awesome!
@fidju: I’m still running Plex Notify v0.0.0.111, and it seems to be working properly here. But I don’t know if it would work to install it anew, without a working ‘phone home’ server.
@mclaren121uk: I do have the installer “Plex Notify v0.0.0.111 setup.exe”, as downloaded around late September last year. But I’m not sure about the ‘ethics’ rules here, about re-releasing someone else’s software. So I’m hesitant about posting it for public download without the author’s consent. But if you contact me in PM, we can always arrange a private transfer of the file.
Ok after Reconsidering all the options I have decided to ditch the partner. He was not happy and while I was away for work disabled all Plex Notify's social media and removed the DNS records for plexnotify.com. Everything should be back up now.
I will continue on with the original plan of a windows service. This way all content stays local. I am looking into ways to integrate it into the Plex Media Server UI. There will be premium Features still for 1 dollar a month or 10/year, 30/Lifetime, if you have already donated upon release send me an email using the address you used for paypal/Google Wallet and I will give you a lifetime key as a thanks for your support. I spend a lot of time on plex notify and there is thousands and thousands of lines of code in the New Plex Notify.
the premium features will be:
Email Notifications
Facebook and Twitter notifications
Advanced statistics, getting stats on bandwidth use, Genre, actors, Writers, Director, Producer, Studio, Country and content rating (R, PG13 , ect) for Shows and Movies.
Request box for users to send Media requests to.
Beta Builds with the latest and greatest features.
??? More in the future.
Note these features will not be available until release. For non premium all existing features that are in the alpha will be will be available. I will try to keep as much free as possible but have enough features premium so users paying can feel like that are getting something for their money.
The API will be changing to allow for a key to be passed for subscribers.
Plex Notify is almost 1 year old and I cannot that everyone enough for their support. I will continue to make Plex Notify the best that it can be and will continue to value the users input.
Thanks for the update. Sorry to hear about the partner. I didn’t realise that you did and they had access to that. I figured after the change to the cloud style it was a scorched earth tactic (rebrand and remove old).
I appreciate the change of heart to continue work on the local model, and endorse a premium feature list. I hope there is a purchase option (vs subscription), maybe even just for a version (ie. Feature freeze for v1, pay again for v2 w/ new features) if the cost is reasonable.
I can’t imagine the stress of the last month, but I do hope things get better.
Good luck, and I am looking forward to the future of plex Notify.
