Plex Notify

Bummer to see this project not going forward.

Agree as I'm sure everybody else does, what we don't know is what's going on with the Dev's personal life so no choice but to wait and see if the development re-starts..... fingers crossed :-)

In my eyes the most recent direction change was intended to monetise this and, as that appears not to have worked out, the wind has gone out of the project’s sails. I think it would be best if we made a suggestion that data export and notification through Pushbullet etc be part of the core server and then we all got behind it.

Further it also strikes me that Notify attempted to do too many things. It might be helpful, perhaps, if we all say our top two uses for this add on?

Sad to see this die away, love this thing, but as it gets larger with more users it's hard to maintain as a freebie.

I'm migrating to plexWatch personally as my needs are pretty simple but I hope this doesn't die away completely, many many hours invested by the dev and I thank him for that.

Does plex watch work with Pushbullet?

Yes it does....I have done the same and migrated to PlexWatch...as much as I liked the Plexnotify feature set....it wasn't that much more than plexwatch and ultimately have moved on

For some reason Plexwatch has been a bear for me to try and get going. Which is why I was holding out for this.

Notify has the right mindset that PlexWatch doesn't have. The features were great and upcoming features were even better. I really hope this goes forward as this software was really something that was a gem to find.

Plex should purchase the code and incorporate natively into Plex

Server. Such a great piece of software.

I agree, I'm curious why Plex doesn't already have this built in.  It would be awesome however, to see JBurlison get a payday for what has already been done.

Joew,

I agree about PN trying to do too much, which could be why JB got overwhelmed and has let it go for so long.  As far as I'm concerned It does everything I need it to do, my top priority would be to simply perfect it.  Secondly, I'd like to see an android app where I could log in to see statistics and stuff.

I’ve made an official suggestion please see and vote up here: https://forums.plex.tv/index.php?/topic/154159-Native-integration-of-Plex-Notify-or-Plex-Watch%2C-or-a-replacement—ie-native-data-export

I was thinking about why Plex wouldn't build something like Plex Notify directly into PMS.

People want to retain a certain degree of privacy. For example my parents were a bit cagey recently when I asked them what they thought about The Imitation Game, they had no idea I could tell what they have been watching (I share my server with them to their Samsung TV).

Although Plex has a Now Playing feature so you can see what's going on right now (presumably so that you don't do a server upgrade or something else whilst something is being watched) they probably don't want to go too far for the sake of user privacy. Having a third party app like Plex Notify or PlexWatch for the power users is just dandy.

Even then I'm still wondering if my parents are going to use Plex less now that they know I can see their viewing history!

I get this. Had the same surprise then pensive emotions when I broke the news to friends recently. They understand though. It’s my server they’re using and I only use it to keep an eye on whether any buffering errors are caused by too many users.

Could you elaborate on this a little. I have been with Notify since the beginning and haven't even tried PlexWatch.

Are there things in Notify that are not in PlexWatch or are you suggesting that Notify is sleeker and possibly more configurable? I had intended to have a look at PlexWatch this weekend. Not because I want to, more that as JBurlinson's abscence extends, more the need arises to look at alternatives.

Any info on some of the differences would be appreciated.

Could their surprise simply be at the marvels of modern technology? :)  (Not knowing your ages groups)

Anyway overall I agree. If anything was to be built in, it should at the very least be a configurable option.

PlexWatch does the statistics more solidly then Notify and just about everything, but was a pain to set up. PN has a better approach to its set up and usability, granted you can run a front end for PW that makes it better it just ends up being tons of work were PN was install and go. also if you looked at features that were intended to come in the future you saw things like email notifications on new content added to the PMS, which is my most desired feature and tons of other great things. J listened to the community really well and took features people requested and implemented them really quickly which is why I donated and stuck around. Devs that listen to their users are few and ones that actually can come through with the requests are even fewer. hopefully he returns to work on this project because PW hasn't added any worthwhile features in a while and I really don't want to go back to them.

Thank for taking the time, Its really appreciated. I may give it a while longer with Notify.. At the end of the day it still works so I may as well stay with it whilst it does.

i have loved plex notify and want to donate as long as I know project is moving forward. I almost got a heart attack just by reading the installation instructions for plexwatch and I still consider myself rather computer savvy. No way I am spending all that time.

ok so what's the status on dev now? dead?

No, I think he’s still alive, just not working on this any more. [emoji3]

damn... this is why I hate third party channels or applications in Plex... at first, dev is on fire, application looks promising, then, feels like it's going to be the next big thing but at some point, WITHOUT ANY NOTIFICATION, gone dark...

Plex team needs to implement this kind of feature builtin PMS (even without all PN features, just the basic notifications, etc...)...

Don't get me wrong, PN works fine now but I just can't rely on it now... any PMS update could break it and nobody would fix it...

This might happen in Plex though, this is a big and popular feature request... I hope...
