Plex on Cocoon no longer has TV Mode in Settings

Server Version#: 3.108.2
Player Version#: Unknown

I rebooted my Cocoon player (Android set top box) and when it came up again, Plex was not in the normal spot on the home screen and I had to add it back again.

It appears to be an upgraded Plex and there’s no longer a TV mode available in Settings. All the instructions say to go to Settings, Experience, and choose TV, but that’s no longer an option.

Was this some kind of forced upgrade? Has the separate TV mode disappeared and the app is now supposed to be hybrid/adaptive and that TV-specific mode is no longer available to users?

EDIT: if someone can tell me how to find the version number, I’ll supply it. I don’t see that in Settings either!

I don’t know what a Cocoon player is but if you don’t see the option to load the TV Mode, then you are probably already in TV Mode. Can you take a picture and share?

You should be able to see the version number of the app by going into settings and it will be there like a watermark at the bottom right. You can also check the apps page under the main Android settings. This should also list the version number.

I would expect an Android TV device to be in “Big Screen” mode by default.

There was a change quite a while ago, but these are ancient versions of Android and Plex:

many of these types of random devices do not run Android TV OS. they run custom versions of the mobile OS made to look like it is for TVs.

Sorry, I should have separated my sentences more clearly.

IF it’s an Android TV device, then I don’t think there are modes, and it’s always “Big Screen”. Right?

(But that manufacturer doesn’t appear on the AndroidTV partners page, so it probably isn’t AndroidTV.)

OR if it’s an ancient version of Android, THEN, is that link helpful?

Is it one of these?

Look at that Plex logo, wow.

That’s the one! And it suits me just fine although I’m sure it’s really old and looks weird to you!

Luckily, I found that if you do a factory reset of the entire device, you get the original version of Plex back! So now all I need to do it stop it auto-updating in future and I’m all set.

Thanks for replying, all sorted out, see below. It’s not and Android TV device it’s a little media centre box running a pretty old Android version.
