I believe we should have a thread discussing running Plex under Lion. Yes, it is beta - but of course issues need to be addressed.
So far:
1) Plex is no longer starting with the Apple remote menu button, even with Candelair. Front Row is removed, along with the remote options in the security panel
2) Flash based plugins are not working. Tried installing Flash 10.x and while video work in Safari, it doesn't appear to in Plex. With Plex-Alaska it shows a black Now Playing screen.
I don’t believe it’s gone for good, as several people have posted on various blogs the remnants of front row still remain. I think the logical conclusion is that it will be revamped or transitioned into something new.
The remote issue is solved with Remote Buddy. A more pressing issue seem to be that transcoding and streaming to iOS isn’t working as Soundflower isn’t (and won’t be officially) updated for Lion.
Source please. I can't find any info on the google code page for Soundflower which leads me to believe that they are stopping the open source work for Soundflower.
While Using an Optical Fiber cable hooked to my surround sound for audio, after an hour or so of using Plex and watching a couple shows, my audio will stop working. If I turn off my surround sound receiver and turn it back on the audio plays fine until the show is over and the audio stops or I close Plex(and the audio from Plex stops). The bug will then also carry over to any other sound I try to play after i use Plex. Any audio I want to hear I have to turn off my receiver and turn it back on in order to hear it, and as soon as the audio stops, I have to do it again. I’m fairly certain this IS a Plex bug because I can play songs on iTunes all day long and watch videos on YouTube etc. etc. and the audio will never stop, but if I watch a couple shows on Plex, it will sure enough stop working after a little while… Another weird thing about the bug is if I restart my computer, The sound will be fine for a while, but after an hour or so of using Plex, it will start again… I’m not sure if this also happens to people using regular RCA audio cables for their sound as I don’t have any 3.5mm-to-RCA cables to try… I tried to search for a solution or anyone else having audio problems with Lion and found some people having problems with headphones and the fix for that is to go to Audio MIDI Setup under Utilities and changing the format of your output from 2ch 16-bit integer to 2ch 32-bit integer… Problem is I can’t try this because I don’t have a 32-bit option. Instead I have an “Encoded Digital Audio” Option. I suppose this is because I’m using an optic cable, but if I try to select this option i get no sound period… I’ve tried going into plea and changing the audio settings like autodecting digital audio etc. etc. and linking the system volume, none of which fixed the problem.
Anyone else have this problem? This problem never happened in Snow Leopard. It started as soon as I installed. It may be something simple and I’m just missing it. If not, and update from Plex or the final release of Lion will have to do lol… It does get rather annoying in the middle of the night while lying in bed watching t.v. and having to turn my receiver off and on after every show (sometimes during where a commercial break would have been while watching a show that was ripped from t.v.(that could actually be a huge hint as to what is wrong since it happens whenever the audio track completely cuts)).
I probably shouldn’t have upgraded on my Plex machine, but I was impatient. At least I was able to report a bug because of it.
You are absolutely right. I upgraded to Lion before the 10.6.8 update. I never would have thought this bug would suddenly pop up in a version of SL... A Lion build is understandable... From the 10.6.8 update apple changed to a new version of the AppleHDA.kext file which is where the problem is coming from. The new .kext file is also in Lion. Apple has yet to fix the problem themselves, but reverting to an older version of the file seems to work!... Thank you. I would have never thought to be searching for a problem in 10.6.8 to fix this problem... Problem with OS X. Not Plex.
Well, you probably won't believe it, but I have about the same issues you have running Plex 0.9.2.7 on Snow Leopard on a stock 2011 model unibody 2.4 Ghz Core2Duo Mac Mini.
I have it hooked up over HDMI to my Samsung LE46M86BDX (almost entirely for the sound hookup since I am not too pleased with the videoquality over HDMI -and yes, I have tried other HDMI cables and ports, even other TV's!- and audio works fine for a while. As I stream a lot of content to my iPad and iPhone I almost always come back to a situation where I need to "reset" the audio settings and restart certain apps for them to output correctly, either to my Sony receiver (hooked up over TOSlink or the TV, hooked up over HDMI, whichever I prefer at the moment) when playing back stuff to my TV.
It's a hassle, and I don't like it and sincerely hope that it will be fixed in the future, but overall I am pretty pleased with Plex and I can live with these minor niggles (the other one is not being able to resume-play instantly from my iPad whenever I turn it off mid-show). To the devs: Keep it up guys, you are doing a great job!
