Plex on nas or pc

Hi guys

Im trying to figure out if i run my plex server on a pc but the media is stored on a nas is it the pc or the nas that does the transcoding?

The PC does the transcoding (if Plex Media Server is really installed and running on the PC. Opening the web page with the plex web app on the PC is not “running Plex”).

If you get a NAS like the Synology DiskStation DS918+, it can run Plex and do the transcoding.

Thanks guys for the quick response.

OttoKerner: yes the plex server would be running on the PC only the media would be stored on the nas.

David_Hoffman: I already own a qnap nas. When i bought it 4 years ago I had no idea what was involved an thought it would do the job. Unfortunately it is not powerful enough to transcode. So now i want to build my own pc with a decent processor and then add a nvidia quadro p5000 gpu (as plex now allow gpu transcoding and this gpu can transcode upto 36 1080 stream and 15 4k streams) for transcoding and use my current nas as storage only. I might add another nas as back up.
