Plex on Nvidia Shield MKV / EAC3 Corruption

For the past few weeks I have been having issues with playing EAC3 audio in MKV files on Nvidia Shield TV 2019. My Soundbar and TV cannot cope with EAC3 so transcoding is required.

The file starts OK, lasts for around 10-15min then stops with the error “Your connections is not fast enough…”. I am hardwired gigabit ethernet and can stream 4K Netflix etc without issue.

The other interesting thing I have seen is that once this fails, it seems to corrupt the original media file, I noticed this as I backup everything to a NAS drive and the files where transcoding has failed I get a CRC error. Once the file has failed to play the first time it seems to be unplayable after.

Plex Server is running on Windows Server 2016

Any thoughts? I have seen plenty of mention of issues with EAC3 audio and the nvidia shield app. I am thinking the best solution would be to use FFMPEG to convert everything to AAC, but would like to try and get it working with EAC3 if possible.
