EAC-3 issues on Roku and Shield

Server Version#: 1.42.0.9975 (Docker running on TrueNAS Scale
Player Version#: Nvidia Shield and Roku

A remote use was telling me he was getting errors playing videos, I think I narrowed it down to videos with EAC-3 audio. After several troubleshooting steps, he went and bought a Shield. Now the videos just spin. I tried on my shield, which I know have played EAC-3 audio videos before and not I get the same thing.

I know the shield had an update months ago that broke EAC-3 but then released another one that fixed it. I tried and verified it was working again.

Now we are back to this.

I am not overly familiar with plex server logs or Plex client logs. I am sure that is something that will help. If you can let me know exactly which one you need and where they are I would happy to provide them.

EDIT: The forum was nice enough to highlight server logs and show me. I attached them. Around 540am on 8/8/2025 is when I tried to play a couple of videos and it just spin. I am going to look though too and see what I can see.

I am seeing lots of warnings and error at 202am (maintenance maybe?)

Aug 08, 2025 02:02:19.885 [140000577289016] WARN - MDE: unable to find a working transcode profile for video stream
Aug 08, 2025 02:02:19.886 [140000577289016] WARN - MDE: unable to find a working transcode profile for video stream

and this:

Aug 08, 2025 05:27:16.720 [140000480570168] ERROR - [Req#41b89/Transcode/e064eb4a2f6efa27-com-plexapp-android] Error configuring transcoder: Decoder install failed: eac3_eae

I did try and CURL download a file from the codec directory and it worked, so permissions “should not” be an issue.

I see this Reddit post, SAME issue. He said there is a link in the logs to download the codec but I am not seeing one. Any one have an idea how to download those? Solution for Truenas scale Plex conversion transcode Codec EAC3 eac3_eae failed error .tmp file. : r/truenas

I found this thread: https://www.truenas.com/community/threads/plex-codec-issue.98186/

The codec folder “EasyAudioEncoder-8f4ca5ead7783c54a4930420-linux-x86_64” had a .tmp on the end. Removing the .tmp allows it to work.

Sounds like a TrueNAS Scale Plex container issue. I will focus on figuring out why it cannot rename the folder.
