So I just saw an XBMC alpha running on a ouya dev console and I was shocked by how well it ran. Super fast, really responsive, even on skins like NOX that my mac mini even struggles with. My question to you guys is, is there a project to port the full plex client over to the ouya? If so where is it because I might want to help, and if not would anyone have interest in starting a project for that?
Never mind, I just saw that it was announced, but it does not say whether it will be the desktop client or the android client. I would like to do a port of the desktop client, starting from the base of the xbmc android build. Is that of interest to anyone?
One thing that I’ve been wondering is, what is the codec support on the Ouya like? Will we see something akin to Google TV in that it direct plays nearly everything under the sun or basically a regular Android device plugged into a TV, with transcoding still heavily relied on?
I’ve got a kickstarter console on the way so I suppose I will know soon enough but it would be nice if anyone who knows could shed some light on this.
As I patiently wait for my Ouya to ship, I've been curious if Plex is already in the Ouya marketplace. Will it be a "Day One" app or should I expect to see it in the coming months?
It doesnt have to be released because it already has been, it will just use the existing android app.
Ouya is built on Android (Jelly Bean) and does not need special apps made for it except in the case of games which have to be mapped to their controller.
So am I to take it then that there is more or less little to no interest in branching the XBMC android build and porting a skin over to it and making the necessary changes for it to be a full desktop pc style interface to plex? If that is the case then I guess it is not worth it then but at least for me, I have not particularly like the google tv, android, or iphone implementations of the UI. I think the iphone and adroid versions are necessary because controlling full xbmc on a touch screen is well just stupid, but for google tv as well as ouya it seems disappointing. Mind you I have not seen Kepler on a big screen yet so I could be wrong.
*shrug* I'm getting a Ouya and have a Roku 2 XS and while it would be GREAT to have a spiffy UI, that's not the primary reason I bought those boxes -- they're great little *playback* devices (well, I'm assuming the Ouya will be) for the bedroom, guest room, etc. Looking forward to trying out Plex on the Ouya as soon as my backer version arrives :)
Look at the RasPlex or RaXBMC and see what happens when you put full blown PC app on underpowered piece of hardware. UI is sluggish, caching takes alot more time than i'm comfortable with etc etc... It's good enough for guest bedroom, garage screen etc but I wouldnt want it in the living room.

Normally i would agree with you 100% but take a look at this:
This to me shows that the ouya is actually capable of running the full version of XBMC very well and therefore capable of running the full version of Plex. But again it would appear that this is not a priority for people which is ok.

Wow, i just watched the video. Pretty impressive that android can handle a complete install of XBMC without any problems to speak of, with a full skin. I hope Plex reaches this point very soon. thanks for the link.
I don't see it as any priority that the Plex guys would waste time and money porting the desktop version when they already have a stellar native Android version (Keplar). If you want the Desktop version on your TV, then check out the Rasplex project

It seemed to get your attention. You are no doubt one of the ouya fanatics that exist and support this failure no matter what. Maybe the 100 bucks you wasted was a big deal to you and its hard to admit you got suckered? The games on ouya are a joke, nobody is making any money from game sales. The flagship title of the system is a port of a port of a remake of an old game and the controllers are broken pieces of ■■■■ that have well documented problems.
If you want to deny any of this then I will happily provide you with posts from developers, youtube videos of the system running like crap and data on game sales.
Since you don't know me from Eve, let me clear up a few things for you;
1) If I'm a fanatic for anything it would be for Plex
2) I bought an Ouya in order to be able to run Plex on it and because I like gadgets (and no, I don't feel suckered)
3) I'm interested in talking about Plex on Ouya in this thread
4) I could not care less about your issues with Ouya
Now if you have something substantial to contribute to this thread about Plex on Ouya, then please, post away. Otherwise, take your Ouya-bashing to a more appropriate forum.
