Plex on PS4 with HDHomeRun Connect and Synology NAS

I’m trying to play HDHomeRun Connect recordings on a Synology DS216j NAS via Plex on PS4. My understanding is I should be able to play the original content without transcoding–yet I get the warning, “The server is not powerful enough to convert the video.” I changed settings to play in original format. What is it still trying to convert? Do I need the HDHomeRun Extend that can record the file in H.264? Or…? Any tips appreciated!

Sony limit what 3rd party devs can send to the PS devices, even though they may be fully capable of direct playing. (Reference this discussion )

Plex DVR records stream straight from HDHR Connect in a .ts container, mpeg2 video stream, ac3 audio usually.
Playstation Plex only uses the .mp4 container, H.264 video stream (Extend would help with this), AC3 audio.

Extend won’t cure your issue. The container will always need conversion.
Sure wouldn’t hurt the video stream conversion though, but the low power of your NAS still may not be enough for .ts to mp4 conversion.
