I’ve installed 2x1Tb NVME SSD for QTS and PMS, and migrating my media files from Synology to the new QNAP Raid 6.
quick question: do you keep the “tmp_transcoding” directory in the NVME SSDs, or in the raid 6? I would stay in SSDs to speed up the process (needed?), and if the storage space should be an issue I would limit the number of movies that can be transcoded simultaneously (300Gb should be enough?)
thanks again
Andrea
I keep it on the RAID 6.
Reason:
- RAID 6, even if it was slow and giving you only 300 MB/sec,
- 300 MB/sec translates to 2400 Mbps of streaming per second
Conclusion:
- RAID 6 is more than fast enough. No need to wear out your SSD prematurely
– Make a shared folder on the HDDs for “PlexTranscoding”
– Point the transcoder temp directory there.
– Keep it off your SSDs
