Hi, i´d like to start off saying im really new to this kind of stuff. Well, i managed to connect my ps3 and computer using Playstation Media Server when the ps3 first came out, but that was a couple of years ago, so please be patient with me. Anyway, i did install PMS on my macbook yesterday and got it to work so i could use the trailers "exploit" on my appletv 3. Worked like a charm and it was a real pleasure. But now i'd like to install it om my NAS (seagate central) that i have. How do i do it? I´ve searched the web a coulple of hours but i did not found any info for that particular NAS, only the big and famous ones ex. Qnap, Synologi and some more. Can i use the same guide that i used on my mac? I dont think so, and if i do, when i use the terminal to create the certificate, how do i enter the pathway to the nas. Its easy when its on the mac but when its on the network, how do i that? Also, i have a macbook, and im just starting to learn it. Been using windows my whole life before. I´d really appreciate if some one could help me!
Maybe you can search nas using the top right search option and find a similar nas option in the forums to install it? You can also use the same trailers.pem on your nas that you used on your mac to keep it simple.

i did that but i only found Zyntel and they used som special drivers for zyntel only. But i wil look some more.
What is your PMS running on?
Hmm i dont really understand the question? Like i said, im new to this. Do you mean my computer? Its a macbook air 4gb ram and 1,3 ghz intel.
There are two components for you to watch stuff through plex:
1> The Plex Media Server (PMS); this is the central application that catalogues and serves up your media (and some other fancy stuff)
2> The Plex client; this connect to the server so that you can watch stuff (clients include PlexConnect as well as iOS/Android/desktop etc)
Do you have a PMS setup and if so on what hardware?
PlexConnect is useless without this so it is helpful to understand where you want to run this.
Oh okey. Well i do have PMS installed on my macbook air(2013) with 4 gb ram and 1,3 ghz intel processor. Its in the "tray" area with the clock, battery and other info on my mac. When i click it there is a dropdown meny with preferens and media manager among other stuff. At the moment i watch trailers for like nature programs that was included on my NAS via apple tv3. So i did the thing with certificate and trailers. And this works just fine. But i want to skip using the computer when i do this, this is where plexconnect come in, isnt it? Or have i misunderstood this whole thing?
I have used the web interface via media manager to add videos so i can watch them at my apple tv.
Probably you have to install PMS and PlexConnect on another machine and use the Seagate as a "disk server" for that other machine.
Yepp, thats the one. Well im sorry but i do not understand what you mean with that. Is machine in this sentence a compter? Or is another hard drive? I do have a spare harddrive laying around that i could plug in through the USB-port on the seagate central.

This Seagate has it's own media server, and this media server can only stream to a "DLNA media player", which is not the case of the ATV. Therefore you have many options, including these:
Use another TV box that support DLNA (such as Roku, PS3 or RasPI) instead of the ATV
Use another TV that supports DLNA natively
Use an iPad (or iPhone) and Seagate's Media App to AirPlay the content to the ATV
Use Plex -> you can use the Seagate as a "disk server" to one of your existing computers (Windows, Mac or Linux). In this computer you have to install both PMS and PlexConnect. From what you say above you already have this installed, so you simply have to parametrize PMS to use the media on the Seagate
Use iTunes -> according to its specs the Seagate has "iTunes server" capability. I'm not familiar with it, but comparing to what happens with other brands, you will need a Windows or Mac machine with iTunes installed. This machine can "see" the library on the Seagate and make it available to the ATV
Use XBMC -> You need a RasPI instead of the ATV, I think that XBMC can use the Seagate as a "disk server"

1. Dont feel like spending more money on this setup.
2. I do have a couple of iphones laying around, 3gs, 4 and 4s. In this case, do i watch the thing on the iphone and stream it to the atv? Do i need a active and/or powered on computer for that?
3. Is this what i do now? "Stream" the content with PMS and plexconnect to atv from my nas. works good but it would have the option to skip the powered on computer.
Is airplay mirroring the same thing like airplay?
Which alternative 2 or 3 is best? Thinking about quality and lag?

Meanwhile I've added some more options to the above. In terms of quality, clearly option 3 is better than 2, not only in terms of quality, but also in terms of usability (it's more natural to use the ATV remote than an iDevice). And if your library is large, several DLNA solutions (I don't know if this is the case of Seagate) take an horribly long time to rebuild the indexes, while the Plex solution is very good on this matter.
Option 2 does not requires a separate computer (just Seagate + iPhone + ATV3).
Its a pretty low powered Linux device as far as i am aware.
You could probably put PlexConnect on it, which would enable the ATV to always work but oyu would need to have the Macbook running a PMS for the ATV to use PlexConnect.
Hello I have a question too concerning seagate central !
I want to install plex connect to central and play through my LG smart TV LM670S ?
How can I do it ?
Do you have a device running a Plex media server and are you planking on using an Apple TV connected to the LG TV?
