Plex on my Sony Bravia Android TV always used to play the avi files in my library, but it’s recently stopped. The spinning circle just displays until I stop it. The files play fine on Plex web and on my Android phone, just not on the TV. I would have thought that the server would transcode on the fly if the player doesn’t support the video format, but it doesn’t do that either.
I know I could convert the files, but there are a lot of them… enough to make it unfeasible. Has anyone else had this issue and found a solution?
OK, even weirder, I found some that the TV will play. I even compared 2 files very similar files that are encoded the same (both MPEG4, same video size, frame rate etc) and one plays and the other doesn’t. Not sure what to look for now.
Hi. I have similar problems with avi’s on my Samsung TV Smarthub. The avi’s play fine thru the Roku (Roku connects to a dedicated iCore5 Plex server), but on the TV Smarthub no. It’s also spotty- some play okay, others don’t.
My guess for what’s happening is the TV cannot transcode fast enough. When that happens, it doesn’t fix itself. But I can stop the playback, then restart it and it plays fine for a while. I had a similar problem running Plex Server from a Qnap NAS that has a older ARM processor that is too slow to run Plex… even though it says it can run Plex.
