Server Version#: Version 1.13.8.5388
Player Version#: All players. Web Client Version 3.67.1, Samsung TV (latest), iOS app (latest)
Plex was working fine. I was notified of an update, so downloaded it and updated on my Thecus NAS. Now the dashboard won’t load and nothing will play. I can still scan for and add new files but nothing can play.
I first upgraded to 1.13.5.5332 then tried 1.13.8.5388
I load the dashboard and it says - There was an unexpected error loading the dashboard
Some of my libraries say - There was an unexpected error loading this library
I try play something and it says - Playback Error: An error occurred loading items to play.
Just seeing if there is anything I can try before blowing away my installation and starting again.
I loaded a new copy of Windows Plex Server on my laptop accessing the same media and it worked.
I’m looking for Settings > Server > Troubleshooting to download the logs and I can’t find ‘Server’ under Settings.
Depending on where/how your Thecus NAS volume is configured, try SSH’ing into the NAS and have a look at /Raid0/data/module/Plex Media Server. (It may vary depending on your version, etc., but you get the idea.)
In the sub directories under that path you should be able to find the logs directory.
Having gone through similar- if you don’t find anything obvious in the logs, you’ll want to do the following to reinstall:
Stop the Plex service in the Thecus Control Panel
Run the uninstall through the Thecus Control Panel
Reboot the NAS
Download the Plex Installer from Plex- NOT Thecus
Reinstall through the Thecus Control Panel
Rebuild/recreate your libraries.
I had this same thing happen with my older N5550- it was because the original Thecus version used a different path than expected and created a mess. I had to go in and clean things up with SSH before it would install again.
Plex Logs.zip (660.6 KB)
Managed to get some log files. Hope these help… it’s building a library now and if i try to play something it has an error S1001
The biggest thing to keep in mind (at least from my experience with my N5550), is that there is not a lot of processing power there. Mine did everything SLOWLY. It worked- in many cases better than my current Windows Plex Server does, but it did it slowly. Had to pre-optimize all my movies, DVR, etc. All of this was painfully slow. Upgrades took hours because of the amount of backup work required and the size of my library. And I wasn’t always patient with it, not knowing what it was doing because it took so long.
That’s why I ended up moving to a Windows server. Now that I have it tuned properly it works as well as my N5550 did, with the speed to match. I haven’t seen which Thecus NAS you have yet, but I run a N7770-10G now- the 5550’s I have back it up. The 7770-10G has significantly more processing power and memory than my 5550’s do, originally that was my plan before going to Windows- run it on the 7770. Now if something were to happen to my Windows box at least I could go back to the NAS if needed just for emergency sake.
Just make sure to follow the steps I gave whenever you upgrade and you should be fine. That process always worked for me. And be patient when you do the upgrade as it may take a significant amount of time to complete. Plex makes a lot of backup copies in the background during an upgrade- on a large library this takes time.
