Plex on XBox One

As far as I know, the Xbox One doesn't support .mkv natively therefore I guess transcoding would be necessary.

Remuxing and transcoding are two different things.  Remuxing isn't as intensive (or not intensive at all) and has no loss in quality.

I'm hoping that VLC will be running on xbox one soon, (It's looking good) This would fix a lot of problems, and can drop the googletv box I use for Plex. Plex+VLC player would be awesome.

I found a solution how it could look like if PLEX App gets a PlayTo feature. Let me know your comments!

+1 for native Plex on Xbox One.  I've got a little Zotac Zbox that I've installed Windows 7 and Plex Media Center on and then plugged that into my Xbox One as the TV source.  It works but it's clunky and I'd love to do away with the extra PC altogether.

Plex, Xbox One, and Chromecast video I found, but I would still love native support!  ;)

I really just want the player, I already have a NAS running a server.

PleXBox One!

I plugged my ROKU into the HDMI pass through on the XBOX 1 and use the plex app there. Works fine for me :) I am thinking of using an HDMI multi switch to go from TV to ROKU when I want to go from Cable to Internet content.

I can say wholeheartedly that a true Plex app for Xbox One would be something I would use, appreciate & be willing to pay for.

The sooner the better.

(Although I do quite like the Plex HT interface and prefer it to Windows 8 & Xbox One's Metro design conventions… I'll take what I can get, though)

I have an HDMI switch coming in today, I have an old Revue, and i'l use it for Plex and switch to the Hopper when watching live TV.  I thought about running stb through the Revue to the xbox one and using the revue for changing channels, but I think using the Xbox for handling live TV will work better.

This is the Switch I ordered, mostly because my Harmony remote will control the switch to cut down on the number of remotes I'll use to one.

When I attempt to play a movie on my Xbox One that previously worked on Xbox 360, the Xbox Videos app on the Xbox one launches, then closes, then launches again, and then it closes and my Surface tells me it can’t connect.

I’ve tried using the PLEX Web Player via Xbox One’s IE… But it never logs in after I input my credentials.

Please advice. I was really bummed since we have a family gathering and were planning on watching movies all night. Ended up giving up and going to bed.

Is the 'play to' feature not working with plex? I keep hearing people talking about it but the option is missing for me.

I would totally pay money for a good well integrated Plex app on the Xbox One.
Getting to my server is the only thing I have to switch the input on the TV for now. everything else is done through my Xbox.

When using PLEX on Windows 8, you can use the play to feature from within the Share Charm, and it’ll work with an Xbox 360 but not on an Xbox One.

I would definitely buy that app! Can't wait!!!! I don't want to switch channels on my receiver (from X1 to Mac mini or the other way around) all the time so when my X1 is already up and running I'd love to grab some popcorn, sit back and watch some TV shows while Skyping, all on my X1 :)

This would be a fantastic way to use Plex on Xbox One until the app store is available. Does anyone know what it would take to allow the Plex client on Windows/Android/iOS to send a push command to the unit? There are already applications able to push the Xbox one as a DLNA client to play Plex media, so I'm just wondering about the ability to add the same function in to the UI of the Plex client and then define a specific unit as it's destination.

Edit:

This article is what I used to get me up and running by playing Plex content on my Xbox One. You get an app called Skifta, and then it will detect your Xbox One and Plex Server, and then you just pick the media file and you are up and running. It is not 100% consistent, but I believe this to be an issue with my transcoder settings and media support on the Xbox One (which could be fixed by developing a profile for your media to be used when pushing content to the XBox one with ease).

+1 on using Skifta with the Xbox One. Works great for me!

Actually, maybe this would be simpler. Instead of making Plex push directly to the Xbox One, could you make the Plex client on Android do an API call to Skifta and make *it* push? Less writing and a quick way to get us to keep the interface while we determine which way Microsoft is going to go!

I can confirm that the 'Play To' feature does work from the Windows 8 PlexApp to XBONE. This is how im playing my content at the moment,

its running from my Surface PRO and works pretty well. I do have the occasional disconnect which is frustrating, but i think its more to do with my Wirelwess LAN.

im in for a native app tho as I dont like the way it launches the XBOX video app before the content starts,

+1

I really don’t see this happening as far as a native Plex client in the Xbox one store.

But I’m hopeful and would like to see it like everybody else. For the Xbox one to be the “all in one” it definitely needs this.

You know what? It might be the Wireless LAN indeed… I’ll check it.
