Plex optimization

I had a general question about optimizing media files. Since I have a decent amount of storage I decided to make the streaming process as smooth as possible by pre-transcoding each of my blu-ray videos into three format: mobile, tv, and original quality. I scheduled the optimizations and they completed, but I only see one file for each movie in the “Plex Versions” folder (I opted to place each of the optimized videos in the same folder as the originals). If I try to re-submit an optimization for a movie that only shows a version in mobile, for example to create an original quality optimization, it gives me a message stating that the optimization file already exists. Is that the way it typically works? One mp4 file for however many optimizations you create?

I should mention that I’m using the latest stable version of Plex. Thanks!

Hmm. The website now shows this question as status “answered”, but I don’t see any response text. Could whoever answered please repeat the answer? Thanks!

You might be onto something here.
But please, don’t use “latest version”. What is you server version number?
Which platform does your server run on?

In settings->Web it says version 2.7.10. In settings->server it says version 1.1.3.2700. I’m not certain which version number would be one needed.

The latter. Thank you, forwarding the error report now.
