Plex overusing HDD

Why does PMS not go disk idle? If nobody is watching, and the periodic tasks are set to very conservative levels (or turned off), what is PMS doing in the background? To be more precise, I hear a disk seek every 2-3 seconds - far more frequent than a 25 item library would require, especially since I add/remove to the library once a week.

My UI doesn’t have a “Download Logs” button that I can find. This is the web UI client (app.plex.tv) logged in to my account. The “Settings” button on the left has a lot of options (General, Remote Access, Agents, etc). The “Settings” button on the upper right puts me in the “Web Client” category. Neither of these 2 “Settings” have a “Help” option, nor “Download Logs” under any of the options.

However, I found another place with log choices: “Web Client - Debug”. My choices for debug level are DISABLED/ENABLED/VERBOSE. Next to this is “You can view the debug logs here”, and when I click on it, I get a JSON output of my logs. When set to ENABLED, the levels appear to be 2,3,4. When set to VERBOSE, it adds level 1 to the mix. I assume 1 means DEBUG, and 2,3,4 mean INFO/WARN/ERROR?

I can set to ENABLED for 2-3 mins, then VERBOSE for another minute, and copy/paste the JSON into a text file and ZIP it up for you. Is that sufficient?

PMS never goes disk-idle because it is always writing something to the log files. It has always been this way.

When logged in to the bundled app (http://ip.addr.of.server:32400/web) you have Settings - Server - Help - Download Logs.

DEBUG logging is almost all that is ever needed.
VERBOSE logging is only for investigating individual packet exchanges between server and a client.
