Plex Pass Community Roundtables

Good news, everyone! Based on your feedback, we are going to be recording the roundtable sessions and make the videos available to all Plex Pass subscribers afterward!

You could also live-stream them through Youtube. Everyone can live-stream on Youtube and it’s real easy to do. The video will be available on demand after the stream.

Great initiative!

Would it be possible to make a public (maybe Plex Pass only) list of bugs being worked on? The same questions are being asked all the time, since no one (well some) knows what is being fixed at the moment or planned for fixing. This could possible make the forum less cluttered and more useful. Users could check the list(s) before questions are made.

I know this could also give people a reason to complain: “Why is my bug not in the list”. “Mine is more important”.

Saved for roundtable =)

These are probably the questions you want to ask at the roundtable…

We tested that out and decided thst it could be something we do in the future. For this first time around, we want to keep it simple.

Good call

Looking forward to it! Hopefully it’s not just a rant and rave at you developers. Any idea how long it is expected to last? 1 question / feedback per participant is it?

That is what I was thinking @cryptochrome , live stream on YouTube and let all Plex Pass members gain access via a special link, or like you said on demand after the fact. I would love to be part of it but I’m not sure I will be able to tune in during the live event, I won’t sign up and take one of the twenty spots if I’m not sure, but a link for YouTube I could come late, throw out a question if I have one, watch the next night, etc.

I partake in webinars for work now and then, if I miss them, they are always archived for later viewing, it’s a good way of doing things. I am glad this is for Plex Pass subscribers only, I feel it will be very productive and informative.

This is exactly what we are among for after the feedback we got in this thread! For this first time around, we will make a private link available for Plex Pass users to enjoy the recordings at their leisure after the event. Once we get through this round we will look at more fancy conferencing features, such as live broadcast, audience Q&A, etc. KISS is the rule for our first time, though recording is something we decided to add as there is immense benefit for those who can’t make it or if the sessions become very popular.

Just for some background here – we piloted this last quarter with the Ninjas and found it to be very helpful in completing the “feedback loop.” The plan is to continue offering sessions exclusive for Ninjas and Plex Pass users, but may cast a wider net and have sessions for other type of users in the future, as well. I don’t want to say too much because I love surprises  Well, the good kind of surprises, at least!

I am exactly the opposite. I detest surprises. I also think that when a company surprises their customers they are looking at more bad impressions than good. But that too probably belongs in the round table discussions.

The problem I see with the setup is that one hour is entirely too short a time for real meaningful discussion. While some problems/suggestions/praise can be presented meaningful discussion of even one serious topic takes at least that long.

I hope that the format gets set so that something good will happen but with the time allotted it seems that it “may” be little more than placing a band-aid on a severed artery.

Well, I suppose you are not seeing the humor in my statement. Besides, these roundtables are designed to serve the many, not the few.

A 60 minute target duration was set out of respect for everyone’s schedule and time commitment. We realize that not everyone has the luxury of ample free time or may not be willing to commit to more time. This provides a sustainable expectation that everyone can plan around. If the conversation is moving well by the time we hit the end, we are willing to extend it for anyone who wants to hang on the conference longer. Setting time limits such as this, along with a pre-determined agenda and proper facilitation is what’s going to get us to a productive and meaningful discussion, as you so desire. Not my first rodeo here

Cheer up and have a little faith  We’re doing this with good intensions in mind.

Since I will not be able to attend any of the roundtable sessions :frowning: I might as well suggest my idea now  What if there was a way that, like mentioned before, that plex-pass users can see what bugs are being worked on (Like @mm98 mentioned) for each platform along with new and upcoming features for each platform.

Some other ideas are,

  • Plex admin app (Plex-pass)
  • Better movie collections (E.g. All Marvel movies or all Batman movies together [Great mockup here])
  • Better channel support and creation
    • Live TV (Pluto tv, film on, etc…)
  • 2 or more plex admins (Plex-pass)
  • Autoselect 5.1 audio over 2.0
  • Two (or more) playback for different users and device sync for movies/TV/Channel/Photo?Home Video (E.G. I and my girlfriend watch a movie at the same exact point; when I pause her’s pauses; I play on my laptop and her on her tablet) (Plex-pass)
  • Two-factor authentication
  • Recommended TV or Movies based on previously watched

Are the ideas that are mentioned now in this thread being recorded and talked about later in the roundtable live-stream or will you pull it up read off some of the suggestions?

Love this idea and hope to participate in it the next time it happens! But, looking forward to watching the streams after when I can watch them!!

Wouldn’t it be easier to just use this topic to gather questions to be read and then answer them live within the Round Table?

Then in addition to those, can then answer questions live from people watching the stream at that time. Would be easy to set up on Twitch and just have anyone who has a useful question to always use an @ in their question. For example: “@PlexDev When will [X] be added?”, if you have the extension Better Twitch TV, then messages with anything specified (like “PlexDev” would then be changed to a different color to stand out. Then also use the moderators to help keep things civil and, if need-be, to slow the chat.

This would lead to more community interaction and be far more “open” than what it currently seems as people won’t feel left out.

That is certainly the direction we are headed in. We’re planning on doing traditional Q&As in future sessions that would lead to more open discussions. For this first time through, we wanted to keep it simple by presenting some topics and also having time for open discussion. I am capturing feedback and suggestions from this thread and will be using that in part to guide the discussion.

Every professional company has a bugtracker and every bug has a status. There you could easily check a bug as “accepted” which means that you know that the reported bug exists and are working on it. I know Plex has a bugtracker but only Ninjas have access to it. No Plex Pass or regular user.

So instead of letting everybody access the bugtracker and just having a few people to keep it clean you instead have a bunch on Ninjas collecting bugs and entering them into the bugtracker. That way you lose a huge amount of bugs and suggestions while having more Ninjas than you actually need.

And if you look at the dispersal of directories and files of plexmediaserver it is proven that Plex does it completely different than the majority. Sadly Plex approach isn’t any better :frowning:

Why is Plex focusing on being EVERYWHERE on EVERYTHING when it hasn’t got the basics right with its core set of products (ie ditching PHT when PMP isn’t finished, removing pre v1 PMS downloads when post v1 PMS isn’t stable).

Stop developing new products (like nvidia pms/client, Sonos etc) and get the current portfolio to 100% before starting new projects.

I totally agree Plex needs a 6 month window to stop new development and focus getting current features 100%.

Better support for 3D movies would be a great thing to chat about!

Just missing 2 Features:

  • LiveTV (Like in Kodi with TVHeadend or VDR). The 3th Party Plugin for TVHeadend is ok for on the way but not for using it at home.
  • Limit speed on server side for friends access

tguldener ive been trying to set the speed/bitrate limit for friends also … as im only on ADSL, unless bitrate is dropped, it just buffers way too much, so unwatchable, an i still dont think ive got it set right ? …

maybe some kinda static settings you could select (like ADSL, or fiber settings etc) …
i hopefully wont be needing this soon, as should be geting fiber “soon!”

Thanks everyone for the great feedback. I am capturing everything because I do plan on having some time to do a Q&A either as part of the agenda topics or afterward. I’m going to talk more about this in the sessions, but wanted to let you all know that we are working on a new feedback process for funneling the most popular/numerous requests through the appropriate internal channels. They does not mean everything will get actioned, as we do have to prioritize, but everything included here and in the roundtables will be reviewed.

Ever look into Trello?
If you have a few people organizing people’s feedback and then restrict it to only those people being able to create cards, you can then have everyone else vote on the ideas within. That way, you get people who don’t want to post voting, all the ideas are then easy to find, and random people can’t create cards which then reduces clutter.

Combined with a Chrome extension, you can then sort the order of each list based on number of votes.
