Plex Pass & HW Transcoding

I can understand that Plex Pass offers additional services and therefore, the additional cost is justified, but should it be necessary for HW Transcoding which is a basic implantation matter which utilises the available HW resources; you also would not charge somebody for installing his server on a more capable CPU.

Does Plex plan to make HW Transcoding available to everybody?

I am sure it is in the interest of Plex too to run their server on an energy efficient HW; at least from an environmental and public image view-point.

BTW: HW Transcoding is available to everybody on Emby

Thank you for coming back after removing my first question on the forum (!)
Sorry to say that your answer is generic and sarcasm does not make it more specific or add to its objectivity.
The question is not paying or not in general, but preventing your software from utilising the fill capabilities of the customer’s hardware would not motivate the customer to buy your services. I gave you the example of CPU, would you throttle the transcoding performance of a customer’s powerful CPU? HW transcoding is not different and you could easily allow it while not allowing the actual services of the Plex Pass. I cannot even try the features of Plex Pass to find out whether it meets my needs, or work at all for me in las of HW Transcoding, before I buy it (and it is not cheap).

I want to be a customer but you push me away by not allowing me to probe the full performance of your product; this is my perception especially after deleting my first question from the board on the forum.

I am not aware of any accusations, or I wouldn’t have asked, but if you don’t want to tell me then we better leave it at this!

Thanks for the clarification, but I can assure you that yesterday I went back to the board and didn’t find my post; made a search and nothing showd-up; went to my account and also found no discussion. I am not making things up, certainly not, and it doesn’t help me by any means.

I would like to clarify, which I have done for others; Hardware Transcoding is premium feature requiring a Plex Pass.

If there is a technical issue, I suggest a new thread be opened and that issue be discussed there.

As a final point I wish to make:

  • Plex does not charge for the server software.
  • If Plex did not make hardware transcoding a premium feature, what would fund the development and maintenance of it and other Plex features & services?
  • If Plex did give everything away for free, how long would Plex be in business?
