At least for HDHomeRun, it’s not worth it w/ HDHomeRun Extend. I applied the discount code for Extend, it dropped the price to $152. I then checked the cost of Extend on Amazon, it’s $145 w/ prime 2-day shipping.
I like the idea of Perks, but it needs to be competitive savings to be worthwhile imho. I didn’t check the discount on Connect, but I saw Connect on Amazon is ~$92, so that might be more competitive on Silicon’s website w/ discount perhaps…
Looking forward to see what they offer in the future…
I always try to use Western Digital drives, so was kinda excited to see 20% of WD stuff… except it excludes internal drives! Bit odd to exclude probably the one item someone with a Plex server would be REALLY interested in!
You should look at it for what it is. A sales pitch. It’s not a Plex Pass benefit. Manufacturers will always try and sell you RRP. Don’t blame Plex for the manufacturers offering a discount.
If you think Plex will have any say in the discount you are getting, you are mistaken.
You’re also completely missing the point that Amazon can afford to subsidise products as they sell a metric ■■■■ tonne every single day. Plex can’t compete with that nor should you expect them to.
I’m grateful that it’s there but I won’t be taking advantage of it. It’s shows they tried.
Hey at least you guys get to use the codes. As a Canadian Plex Pass holder, none of the perks work for Canada. So it’s more of a Hey, guess what your US friends can do that you cannot do. Kind of a slap in the face to me, which is not a nice perk.
It depends…I’ve been looking at a My Book Duo 12TB to backup my data. It’s £402 on amazon, with this Perk it goes down from £409 to £327. So it’s definitely worth it depending on what you’re after.

I don’t blame Plex and I don’t think they’re at fault for a non-competitive deal (at least re: HDHomeRun). Really the issue is with SiliconDust not attempting to be more competitive. I hope the deals keep coming though, I think eventually we’ll likely see a deal that is quite worthwhile.
Plus some deals like the discount difference that @WilhelmStroker found, makes Plex Perks a good program already.
No good deed goes unpunished! I picked up a 4TB My Passport Ultra Metal for just $103 using the Plex Perk code. Was even cheaper than with the student store (although for some other things, the student store was cheaper than using the Plex code)
I’m guessing here but this was probably put together by the marketing department who aren’t technology nerds like some of us and really don’t know what type of deals will appeal to us. Regardless, let’s stay positive and helpful so that this can get better.
Try and include comments on what the vendor sells that you need/want and could use a coupon code for. Example internal Red Drives
With some proper feedback maybe Plex can go back to the vendors on our behalf and get better deals.
