Plex Pass Sync - Only syncing to 50%/Waiting for Server - Mac/IPhone

Encountered same issue with Plex Media Server v1.16.3.1433 (running inside a Windows VM) and iOS Plex v5.18 (both on iPhone and iPad).

When I am clicking the sync button, the only error appears in the logs is:

Sync: sync list 34380440, sync item 37750580 has an empty guid: library:///item/%2Flibrary%2Fmetadata%2F12947%3FincludeExternalMedia%3D1

I tried to:

  • google issue (no luck)
  • reinstall ios app
  • purge contents of Cache directory on the server

Did you ever solve your issue? I am seeing the same thing, but with only 1 device, another device is able to sync successfully. I’ve reinstalled the app, logged out of plex on both server and client, deleted all previous sync’d episodes. Bit of a loss as to what to try next.

The only obvious sync error is as you had:

The symptoms are as described by @Natalie_Silverman, where the server says its waiting for the client to download, but the client shows nothing.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Sod’s law, I post that and try one more thing and get it working. Posting the steps here in case anyone else has the same problem:

  1. Note: This will remove all previously sync’d content from your device!!
  2. From the client, delete all sync’d content and sign out of plex.
  3. From the server, check and remove all instances of the client that you are having the problem with from the list of authorised devices.
  4. Sign back into plex on your client, ensure that it shows up on the server correctly.
  5. Try and sync again and it should work.
