Slow Syncing after migration

Server Version#: 1.14.0.5465 on Windows 10
Player Version#: iOS app build 15629

I am having an issue syncing to the iOS app post migration from one PMS to a new one. Mp3 files with no transcoding required is taking an extreme amount of time, i have seen one album under 100Mb sit at pending for over 30 minutes.

I have tested a few different things, including installing clean installs of plex in a new Linux install and windows 7 install, when I do not copy the Plex Media Server folder over to the new installs (to keep the libraries intact), sync is instant, same album I have been consistently testing with syncs in seconds. When I bring that PMS folder over per the migration KB (https://support.plex.tv/articles/201370363-move-an-install-to-another-system/), and go to sync items the speeds die down again and it takes forever.
Any idea what is in the PMS folder that is causing the slow down? I don’t want to have to rebuild the entire library of movies and music but waiting hour an album to sync is ridiculous.

not sure if anyone has any insight into this, but i have determined that it seems like copying the database over causes this issue. i have literally cleared the entire Plex Media Server folder and just copied the databases over. I’m missing all the artwork, etc. But syncing a new item still takes a long time. If i set up the library new and sync without this database its pretty fast.
I already tried the database corruption clean up article with no luck. I really dont want to redo all the libraries over again. The db is around 202MB after clean up; any suggestions? Should i switch to linx instead of windows; will that have any bearing on the issue?

I was alerted to your issue. When you migrated your server, did you follow all the steps including copying over the preference file in Linux or copying the registry in Windows. Sync jobs are tied specifically to a server. If you have a pending sync job and you migrate the server, unless done correctly, the server will be considered a new server and the old sync job won’t work. If you are creating the sync job after the migration, then the above doesn’t apply.

Keep in mind that file locations are also stored in the database. Are your drives mounted exactly the same as they were previously? Otherwise, PMS won’t be able to find your files so the sync is slow while it is looking for files that don’t exist.

Barring either of the above, please reproduce the issue and then post the log from PMS.

Hello, to answer your questions:
copying the registry in Windows - yes i did.
Sync jobs are tied specifically to a server. If you have a pending sync job and you migrate the server, unless done correctly, the server will be considered a new server and the old sync job won’t work. - old syncs were updating fine, new syncs were taking an extended period of time. Formats that were not being converted where talking 15-30 minutes minimum (primarily on LAN, understandably a bit longer when remote) to sync. Something that requires conversion (i.e. flac) was taking hours.
Are your drives mounted exactly the same as they were previously? - yes same drive letters and exact same folder structure. Everything was seen without issue

What i ended up doing last night was moving to another host, however this time i did not import the registry settings. I did have to set this up as a new server, and as you mentioned none of my previous syncs would then update. However, since i copied the Plex Media Server folder over, all my metadata, album covers, etc did show up. I then deleted the app on the mobile device and resyncd and it is now working much better.
I will note that i did try deleting the app on the mobile device and deleting the device from the server previously, as outlined in one of the KB articles, which id not resolve the issue, and i could replicate the issue on multiple mobile devices. I am sure this had something to do with either the registry settings, the plex database or combination of the two.

I will continue to sync my albums to the mobile device; if the issue reoccurs i will upload the logs; however i cant recreate it at the moment given its working from the process i followed above.
Thanks

Thanks for the follow up. When you migrated the server, did you go from the same PMS versions? i.e. 1.14.0 to 1.14.0. If you migrated between different versions, then there may have been a change to the database that isn’t being seen correctly by the new PMS.

Other than that, I can’t think of why the database would cause sync to slow down.

I did go to the same version which was 1.14 (i didn’t catch if there was a sub .version after 1.14 so its possible one could have been 1.14.x and the new one could have been 1.14.y and i didn’t realize it). One thing i do notice (and this wasn’t intentional, but since its working i am not changing it) is the file i used to install on the working version was the 1.13.9 version. I haven’t upgraded it as everything is working for me and i dont know if it was related to the 1.14 version or not. At any rate, albums seem to be syncing with in 1-2 minutes for non-converted items and within 3-4 minutes for flac which is much better than it was.
Thanks

So this worked great for about two weeks and now all of a sudden it’s been sitting at 50% waiting for all syncs. I tried to sync a single MP3 album around 100Mb or so and it sat at 50% waiting for over 12 hrs.
Please advise, this is pretty frustrating to pay for a lifetime of over $100 and have it work so inconsistently

i posted this in another existing forum post but uploading the logs here as well. I did update to the latest 1.14.1.5487 after this issue started, did not have any affect.PlexDebugInfo-5.8-15873 (2018-12-15 10.52.37 -0500).zip (12.0 MB)
Plex Media (5.6 MB)

Your logs are showing a 404 error which is a permissions issue trying to access your files. Are you able to stream the file?

Yea streaming works fine. I found a similar issue in the forums and have posted in there as well. Here is the link as it has some additional troubleshooting and updates on the issue.

so I’m back to the original issue, syncing music is again taking a ridiculous amount of time. I did apply the most recent update for both the app and server. I’ve watched the app sync and go back and forth between progress (i.e. getting to 4%) then regress (i.e. drop back down to 2%) and bounce back and forth, reaching 20% then dropping to 10%… It sits at pending for an extended period of time during this process, and eventually completes. Last night I tried to sync three FLAC albums, I started before going to bed and when checking on it 7hrs hours laster it was just finishing the last album… How do I resolve this?! I’m really growing disappointed in spending over $100 on this software and spending such an excessive amount of time trying to get it to work the way it was advertised.

The progress should not go down. How are you choosing the albums to sync? I’m wondering if you used some sort of filter which makes it a “smart” sync list and so the list changes causing the job to start and stop to update what it needs to do. Can you send me an updated log showing this new attempt?

I am syncing directly from the iOS app. I select the album I want, hit the down arrow for sync and then click save. The settings are set to the highest quality. I am not using any filters, I didn’t even know that was an option. Tell me where to look and I will confirm something was not inadvertently selected.
Next time I go to sync something I will upload the logs.

I’m trying to sync to the iOS device and now I get the attached…

That says you are trying to sync 107 new items. Is that right? I thought you were doing 1 album. Can you provide me new logs (app and PMS)?

i was testing with one album initially. please read through everything i have posted to see the progression of this issue. the app completely crapped out when i changed my password for login and all my previously synced items got deleted as part of that. i had to re-sync everything all over again. After the app crapped out, it was functioning more or less normally for a period of time. The details of that was listed in the other forum i posted in, which i linked above (i mentioned additional troubleshooting steps in that posting). i never heard any feed back in this forum posting or the other.
To answer your specific question, yes now that i am re-syncing everything i am not doing one album at a time, there are 107 songs, across a few albums i was trying to sync at the time of the screen shot.
Because i didn’t hear anything for for an extended period of time, i closed the app and rebooted the mobile device already which got rid of the “uh-oh” error.
That sync eventually finished, another wait over night process.
I am trying to sync another small group of albums, 70 songs. As of the moment it has taken 10 minutes to progress 7% of the first album in line. See screen shots:

There are a lot of postings in the forums of people having issues with the iOS mobile sync feature.
I used it as a premium plex pass member for over a year, paying monthly and it worked great for streaming. I wanted to use this to be able to sync my own music so I wouldn’t have to continually upload missing albums to a subscribed music service. To say i am disappointed that i opted spend over $100 to be a lifetime member at this point is an understatement as i never thought i would be troubleshooting the app for a month+. i feel like this may be beta software that users are troubleshooting; that would be fine if it was free, but not to pay for.

Suggestions? Fixes? I am trying to sync five concert albums… They have been sitting at 50% for roughly 10hrs now:

Check your setting for how much space sync should use on your device.

2018/12/24 10:27:01.018 (240 MB) (262549) 🔧 PMKStorageManager.m:209 | Total: 244080 Mb Limit: 0 Mb Used by Sync: 59176 Mb Free: 167514 Mb Available: 167314 Mb

That indicates you’ve got it set all the way down, so the app thinks there is no room to add more sync content.

Unless I am misreading this the space allowed is unlimited. So if it’s reporting no space then it seems like a possible bug.
See screen shot, if you are referring to a different setting please outline where I need to check.

I’ll also note that I tried to sync a single album a few minutes ago and it got to 5% complete then dropped back down to 2% compete.
